This is a bonanza of a chapter because I just couldn't stop writing. Anyways, hope you enjoy it!

------------------------

Chapter 6:

Rachna and Sneha sat together, talking about the shopping that Rachna and Chaya had done in Delhi. But Rachna seemed to be lost in her own thoughts.

"Rachna. Rachna! What are you thinking about? Are you worried about something? You can tell me beta."

Rachna was worried and scared about her mausi's reaction. But she was tired of keeping secrets, so she decided to tell Sneha everything.

"Mausi ji, I just want to say I'm sorry. You have been so supportive of me this past year since mummy and papa passed away and I have been hiding the biggest truth of my life from you."

"What do you mean Rachna? What have you been hiding?"

Rachna took a deep breath. "I haven't told this to anyone. In fact, even mummy and papa didn't know about this. When I went away to Benaras three years ago, mummy and papa disowned me. I was all alone in an unknown city with no one behind me. But he became my biggest support, my best friend, and my family..."

-----------------------------------------------

It became routine for Rachna to come in to the office every day and wish Kabir a good morning. In fact, it became routine for Kabir to hear Rachna's good morning every day. He loved seeing her bright smiling face every morning. In a matter of a few months, Kabir began to rely on Rachna for everything; she became his right hand. Neither realized when they transformed from boss and employee to something more, but the rest of the office sure noticed when Miss Rachna became Rachna and sir became Kabir. Kabir and Rachna spent all their time in the office working together, often staying late nights to finish up their projects.

It was one such evening, September 15th to be exact, when everyone else had gone home for the day and just Rachna and Kabir remained in the office. It was an extremely hot and humid day, made worse by the fact that the air conditioner was broken and the fans were merely circulating the hot air around the room. Rachna was covered in sweat with her clothes sticking to her body, clinging to and highlighting her every curve. Kabir was sitting across the table from Rachna, distracted not only by the excruciating heat but the beautiful sight in front of him. Kabir was closely watching Rachna, observing how a stray piece of hair kept coming on her face and annoying her. Closing his laptop, Kabir moved towards Rachna and tucked in the hair behind her ear and closed her sketch pad. Rachna looked up, clearly taken aback by this gesture.

"What's wrong Kabir? Everything okay? I'm almost done with this desi..."

"Shhh! Do you always think about work? You know they say that all work and no play makes for a very dull day."

Rachna was dumbstruck by Kabir's behavior; she couldn't fathom what was happening.

"Enough work for today Rachna. How about we go for dinner tonight? Let's celebrate!"

"Celebrate? Celebrate what?"

With a serious expression on his face, Kabir replied solemnly. "You getting fired."

Rachna's eyes opened wide with shock. "What? You...you're firing me?! How? I mean why?"

"Because I can't do this with an employee."

With a naughty smile and a twinkle in his eyes, Kabir put his arms around Rachna's waist and pulled her towards himself.

"I can't keep up this act anymore. The truth is that I've been attracted to you since that very night when we bumped into each other here at the office. My day only starts after I see your bright smile and hear your cheerful good morning. My ears rejoice when you call me Kabir instead of sir. But most of all, I just can't imagine spending a day without seeing you, talking to you, and doing this with you."

Kabir lifted Rachna up and made her sit on the table. Putting one hand on her waist and one hand on her shoulder, he leaned in close to her and touched his lips to hers for a quick peck. As he moved back, Kabir felt a tug on his shirt. Rachna pulled Kabir towards herself and put both arms around his shoulder. She hugged him, as she whispered into his ear, emphasizing the last word of her sentence.

"I think you might want to do a little more than that. But I'll submit my resignation tomorrow morning, sir."

-----------------------------------------

Rachna officially resigned from KT Creations, but she continued to work there, assisting Kabir with his projects. They spent all day together at the office and then spent the evenings together dining at restaurants, watching movies, and going for long drives. Often Rachna would stay the night at Kabir's apartment or he would stay with her in her room. They became each other's lovers, but more importantly they became each other's friends, trusting each other with their deepest secrets and biggest sorrows.

It was one night when Rachna was staying with Kabir at his house. They were both sitting in the living room, on the sofa, with Rachna resting her head on Kabir's chest as he placed his arm around her shoulder.

"Kabir, I want to get married."

Not surprised by the sudden proposition, Kabir chuckled. "I was expecting to move towards that step soon. But I was hoping that I would be the one to propose."

Rachna pinched Kabir's arm playfully. "Be serious!"

"Ouch!! Okay, okay. I agree with you."

Kabir sat up to face Rachna and took her hand into his.

"I had something special planned for a little bit later, but I guess now is a better time. Just hold on, I'll be right back."

Kabir went into his bedroom and came out with his guitar. Sitting next to Rachna, he began strumming a tune and singing for her.

Tujhse hi to mili hai rahat

Tu hi to meri hai chahat

Tujhse hi to judi zindagi

Teri yaadein hain kuch adhoori

Saans aadhi hai kuch hai poori

Aankhon mein hai kaisi ye nami

Mera mann, kehne laga

Paas aake na tu door jaa

Chhoone de, honth tere

Zara saanson mein apni basa aa.

Kabir softly traced Rachna's lips with his fingers, teasing her.

Tujhe apna bana loon

Tujhe tujh se chura loon

Tujhe khud mein chhupa loon, Rachna!

Ik mujh pe karam ho

Tu hi mera sanam ho

Teri mujh pe nazar ho, Rachna!

Rachna smiled as she noticed how Kabir had changed the lyrics and put her name into the song.

Kabir stood up and moved towards the balcony, gesturing Rachna with his eyes to follow him. With Rachna standing near the railing of the balcony, the full moon shining down on her, Kabir got down on his knees and continued the song.

Raat ke chaand tale

Aagosh mein meri tu aa

Baahon mein le lo mujhe

Zara sapno mein apne basa

Finishing the song, Kabir took Rachna's hand in his and unclenched his fist to reveal a glittering diamond ring in his palm. Looking up at Rachna expectantly, Kabir waited for her answer. Rachna's eyes filled with tears of happiness, as she realized that Kabir had been planning this surprise for her. Rachna nodded her head and Kabir slid the ring onto her finger. As he stood up, Kabir enveloped Rachna in his arms and they broke into a passionate kiss unlike any other that they had shared before this.

--------------------------------------------------

The wedding was a small affair. They registered their marriage in the court on the morning of December 25 and got married at the temple later that afternoon. Kabir and Rachna organized an intimate, but grand reception at a five-star hotel for their close friends later that evening.

As happy as Rachna was to be married to Kabir, she felt the absence of her parents more than she had ever felt before. Neither Rachna nor Kabir revealed the news of their marriage to either of their families. Rachna was not in touch with any of her family members after they had disowned her. She sometimes spoke to Sneha mausi to assure her that she was doing fine, but Rachna had never been able to tell her mausi about Kabir. Meanwhile, Kabir's father had passed away during Kabir's childhood and Kabir did not get along with his mother; in fact, he had not spoken to her for the past ten years. The only family member that Kabir cared about, or rather adored, was his younger brother Karan, who was in London for his education and thus couldn't make it to the wedding.

------------------------------------------------

Rachna and Kabir enjoyed a week-long honeymoon on the picturesque beaches of Thailand. From snorkeling in the clear turquoise waters to hiking in the luscious green rainforest, Kabir and Rachna had lots of fun. Aside from the adventurous recreational activities, they enjoyed their romance with couple massages at the spa and long evening walks along the shore line. And of course, there was no shortage of the marital bliss that every newlywed couple enjoys.

--------------------------------------

They had been married for a little over a month now and things were slowly settling into place. While Kabir and Rachna had known each other for a year before their marriage, married life was an adjustment for both of them. For instance, he liked the house to be clean with everything put into its proper place, but she could care less about organizing the sock drawer. He liked spicy chatpata food, while she could eat sweets all day long. He loved waking up every morning and going for a jog, but she preferred to sleep in and enjoy breakfast in bed.

In fact, it was one such morning that Kabir returned from his early morning jog to find Rachna still sleeping. Annoyed that she was still not awake, he started slamming the cupboard doors in the bedroom to purposely disturb her. Hearing the noise, Rachna opened her eyes and sat up in bed.

"Good morning Kabir." Rachna said while yawning.

"Morning? Rachna it's 11 o'clock! How can you sleep so much? You went to bed at 9 last night and you still woke up so late?"

"I know that I woke up late Kabir but I don't know why I'm so tired these days. Anyways, you take a shower and I'll go make breakfast."

Giving her husband a quick kiss, Rachna left the bedroom. Kabir smiled as his anger melted away seeing his wife's sweet innocence.

Kabir emerged from the bedroom after having taken a shower and he immediately became amused, as he found Rachna eating lemon pickle out of the jar.

"Since when are you into chatpata food?"

Rachna looked up surprised. Licking her finger clean and closing the pickle jar, she smiled innocently but said nothing.

-------------------------------------

"Kabir! I'm home! Where are you?"

Rachna looks around the apartment, frantically looking for her beloved husband. She finally finds him in the balcony, sitting in a chair, peacefully sleeping. She smiles naughtily as she picks up the hose and sprays Kabir with cold water.

"Ahhh! Ouch! What the..." Kabir jumps out of the chair and starts to chase Rachna throughout the apartment.

"Rachna!! You just wait until I catch you! Rachna!"

Rachna is running around the apartment and laughing at Kabir. Finally, they both get tired and flop down onto the bed, facing each other.

Kabir rolls over and pins Rachna down under him. "Is that the way to wake someone up?"

Rachna innocently smiles at Kabir. "I couldn't help it. You were sleeping so peacefully and the hose was just calling out to me."

Seeing Rachna's mischievous reply with her innocent expression, Kabir just burst out laughing. "You're just too much. But I love you for that."

Gently stroking her face, Kabir whispers into her ear, "I really love you. I love you so much! You're the best thing to ever have happened to me."

Rachna smiles and nuzzles closer into Kabir's arms, whispering back into his ear, "Me too..."

---------------------------------------

A few weeks later, Rachna and Kabir were driving home from a business conference when Rachna suddenly screamed and told Kabir to stop the car. As soon as the car jerked to a stop, Kabir turned towards Rachna only to find her getting out from the car and running towards a pani puri stall. Exiting the car himself, Kabir walked towards Rachna.

"So you screamed and scared me half to death just to eat pani puri?"

Her face stuffed with pani puri, Rachna looked at Kabir and nodded as though it was the most natural thing to do. Kabir shook his head in disbelief.

"All right then, I give up. As they say, if you can't beat them, join them."

So Kabir also ordered himself a plate of pani puri.

Getting back into the car, Kabir was getting all the more bewildered by Rachna's actions.

"Rachna darling, are you sure you're all right? I mean you hate spicy pani puri but you just ate like 5 plates."

"I'm absolutely fine Kabir. Sometimes I just feel like having spicy food and today was just one of those days."

--------------------------------------

The next day at work, Kabir walked into his cabin to discuss something with Rachna only to find her missing. She emerged a little while later from the washroom, looking pale and very weak. Concerned, Kabir helped Rachna sit down and gave her a glass of water. Kneeling down in front her chair, Kabir looked expectantly towards his wife.

"Rachna, are you okay? What's wrong?"

"I'll be okay Kabir. I just didn't feel too well after breakfast this morning. In fact, I still feel a bit nauseous."

"Oh no. See, I told you not to eat so many plates of pani puri yesterday! Now you've got food poisoning."

Rachna shook her head at her husband's naivete. "Food poisoning? That's what you think this is?"

"Yeah, what else could it be?"

Rachna rolled her eyes and sighed loudly. "I've been giving you so many hints over the past few weeks. I was hoping you would figure it out yourself."

Kabir was completely confused now. "Figure it out? Figure what out?"

Rachna smiled and shook her head. She then began humming a little tune.

Kabir and Rachna sitting in a tree

K-I-S-S-I-N-G

First comes love, then comes marriage,

then comes Kabir with a...

Rachna paused, waiting for Kabir to fill in the blank. Kabir listened closely to what Rachna had just said. His eyes lit up and his mouth formed a huge grin when he finally realized.

"Baby carriage!" Kabir exclaimed.

"Took you long enough to figure it out! Yes! We're having a honeymoon baby!"

Giddy with happiness and excitement, Kabir picked Rachna up and twirled her around. She laughed seeing him so happy.

-------------------------------------

Rachna was four months into her pregnancy and everything was going smoothly. She was experiencing the usual pregnancy symptoms like food cravings for spicy and sour food, having to pee every hour, feeling tired all the time and of course, morning sickness. But this name irked Rachna so much because it was not just morning sickness for her; it was more of an all-day sickness. Rarely did she throw up, but she felt sick and nauseous all day. Despite these challenges, Rachna was coping with her pregnancy and planning happily for the baby's arrival.

One particular day Rachna had been feeling pretty nauseous in the morning so she decided not to go to the office with Kabir. He had reluctantly left her home alone with the promise of returning as soon as the meeting with the client was over. It had started with a dull pain on the right side of her abdomen but slowly it had increased to the point where Rachna was crying because of how much pain she was in. She tried to call Kabir but he was in the meeting and his phone was switched off. The pain intensified and Rachna screamed. The neighbors came rushing to Rachna's aid and transported her to the hospital where the doctors informed Rachna that she had a miscarriage. The neighbors had informed Kabir of Rachna's condition but by the time Kabir reached the hospital, nothing could be done.

The news of the miscarriage devastated Rachna. She had been inconsolable for days. It was only with the promise that they would try for a baby again soon that Kabir managed to bring Rachna out of her depression. After months of trying with no results, Rachna decided to undergo fertility treatments.

-------------------------------

"How are the latest reports Dr. Shaina?"

The doctor replied with a stern expression. "It's not the news you want to hear Rachna. The treatment is not working as well as we would like it to."

Rachna's face fell. "Well, is there any other option? Any other medicine that you can try? Please, I'm willing to do anything."

"I will consult with some other doctors about this case Rachna, but as of now I can't say anything more."

Rachna could not come to terms with the fact that she would be unable to conceive. She couldn't bring herself to tell this news to Kabir, so she hid the news, waiting for a better time to tell him.

-----------------------------

The ringing of her cell phone woke her up. Sneaking a glance at the clock, Rachna saw it was 2:13 am. Wondering who could possibly be calling her so late at night, she picked up her phone. Seeing Sneha mausi's number flash on her screen, Rachna hurriedly accepted the call.

"Mausi ji, is everything all right? Why are you calling so late at night?"

A panicked voice responded to Rachna's query.

"Rachna! Rachna, please come to Mumbai! Your parents...they...they are in the hospital and..."

------------------------------

After arriving in Mumbai, Rachna quickly reached the hospital where she found out about her parent's car accident. They had been on their way home after attending a wedding when a drunk teenager had crashed into their car. Dayal had passed away on the way to the hospital, while Shail was admitted into the ICU.

In her last moments, Shail asked to see both her daughters. Rachna took her mom's hand and begged for forgiveness. Shail merely smiled as she placed her hand on Rachna's head, blessing her to have all the happiness in the world and to fulfill all of her dreams.

--------------------------------

"How can he get bail so quickly? He is responsible for murdering 2 people!" Rachna screamed at her lawyer.

"Rachna, he is from a very big family. They are rich and powerful, which means that they can manipulate the law to their liking, at least in this country."

Feeling a major headache come on, Rachna pressed her fingers into her temples and closed her eyes for a few moments. In the aftermath of her parents' death, Rachna had spent the past 2 weeks in Mumbai making rounds to the court and police station. She wanted to punish the person who had caused her parents' accident and their untimely death.

"Who is he? What's his name?"

"Karan Tripathi."

Rachna looked up at her lawyer, shocked. "Karan Tripathi? Are you sure?"

---------------------------------

"Hi Rachna. How's everything going? Any progress on the court case?"

"No Kabir. No progress."

"I'm sorry to hear that. Is there anything I can do to help?"

"No Kabir. I can handle it."

"If you need any help, you let me know. Okay? Well, I also called to ask if there is any possibility that you could come to Benaras for a few days."

"Now? It's pretty chaotic here Kabir. I don't know if I can leave."

"Okay. I understand. It's just that Karan is coming here and I wanted you guys to meet. But if you can't make it I understand."

"I can't come Kabir."

Rachna cut the call and burst out crying.

------------------------------------

"Kabir please...we can't be together." Rachna turned away from Kabir to quickly wipe away her tears. Kabir walked towards Rachna and stood in front of her.

"Why? I love you Rachna and you love me too...so why can't we be together?"

She had no answer for him. She just stood there in front of him with her head turned towards the ground. Tears welled up in her eyes and she quietly let them flow down her face. Kabir gently pushed her chin up and wiped away her tears.

"Why are you pushing yourself away from me Rachna? I can see that you are not happy with this decision, so then why are you doing this?"

Rachna stood up straight and forced herself to stop crying. "My decision is final. We can't be together. Please just go away...go away and forget me." Saying that, Rachna had left.

------------------------------

"I left him. That's the only option I saw at the time. I didn't have the heart to tell him that his younger brother killed my parents. But I couldn't live with the fact that my parent's murderer would be living with me as my brother-in-law."

-------------------------------

Okay so if you got through all that, 👏👏👏 😆

What did you think? Was this expected/unexpected?

@Nivi it is beautiful and romantic update. But frankly speaking i am afraid to give strong review because somewhere i don't like Rachana's aproach.
Yes you can call me Conservative. But still i don't like she is hiding a big news of her marriage, that she is staying with kabir. Not exactly staying but sharing husband/wife relation with Kabir. So the exactly word if live-in-relationship.

Even i am at Mausi's place i can get angry.

But rahter than this a beautiful update.I can say you can play with words beautifully.

Sorry if i disappointed you.
