A move from the 'small' world to the 'big' world. From living rooms to dark theatres. An enchanting world in which fame, glory, entertainment takes a completely new name.

Talk of Shah Rukh Khan, Vinay Pathak, Prachi Desai, Rajeev Khandelwal, Aamna Sharif, Shweta Tiwari, Sakshi Tanwar and Nausheen Ali Sardar who have been a part of this 'silver' race. More recently Karan Singh Grover, Sulagna Panigrahi, Ragini Khanna, Roshni Chopra, Shilpa Anand, Tia Bajpayee, Pravesh Rana and many more have joined the league of TV stars playing lead roles in films!

So what do these actors think about making it big in the world of films? Ask telly hottie Karan Singh Grover and he says, "It's a myth that TV actors can't make it in films. If you have the talent and determination to work hard, you can make it in films even though you started your career on television. Moreover, I feel TV actors have an added advantage of making their debut with an already existing fan base. While doing television, you gradually grow into the character and it becomes easier for you to emote. However, in case of films you have a very small time period to get your act right. Working in the film industry is a humbling experience for me and it's a dream come true."

For first timers what holds important is the opportunity as well as relevance of character. Sulagana Panigrahi who was seen recently in Murder 2 tells affirmatively, "Though working on television is satisfying, acting in a film was a different experience. Financially it is not satisfying at the moment since I am just starting, but with time, it will work out financially too."

The winds of change are definitely fresh. Actress Roshni Chopra who is making her debut on silver screen in upcoming film Phhir says, "TV actors are no longer treated as side-line actors only. They are making it big in Bollywood and it feels great to be the part of this brigade."

Interestingly, these actors who are making a drift to films are not giving up television. They want to juggle between the two mediums. Tia Bajpayee, who made her debut in Haunted says, "Whatever I'm today is because of television. I will definitely return to TV but to anchor some exciting reality show."

Actress Shilpa Anand who's playing the lead in Alert 24, starring Sanjay Dutt and Ruslan Mumtaz, however has a different story to tell. She says, "I started with films but small screen gave me fame. I feel television gives you an intensive training to gear up for films and you're already bestowed with a solid fanbase. Now when I'm doing films again, I'm that much more confident."

What do television producers feel about this trend of TV actors making it big in films? Producer Rajan Shahi says, "It's nice to see TV actors getting opportunities to showcase their talent in films. It clearly reflects their popularity. Earlier people were reluctant to consider them for important roles in films." However he also feels, "TV actors should never leave their shows mid-way because they have a Bollywood offer, as it's not professional. Top film stars are now doing TV and it is the medium of the masses, so TV actors doing films is a good trend."

It's a heady feeling to be a film star and as they say nothing tastes better than success. So once this twinkling stars from television hit bigtime in Bollyville, there will be more acceptance for the telly frat on 35 mm in the coming years.

Rajan ji I agree with what you said..Television seems to show that the actors are closer to us.. Somehow now a days television is a bigger market and as u said Top film stars are also getting to television may be closer to masses.

Bollywood is always there , but Theater and television is way getting higher in terms of viewership.

I also like what rajan ji said.. Television has a lot of scope and it would be nice if actors finish their role and then take a break ..
Thanks for sharing

@shanti..thanks for sharing the article..
sulagna got apreciated for her role in murder2..she thanked RS for this ..to say she was convincing in her role as sakshi in bidaai..all the best to her in her future projects.
the bit you highlighted for RS i do agree with him..television is a medium which targets over millions of viewers everyday..be it entertaintment.informative.anything its close to the mass..
as for actors also i second him an actor given a role should respect his contract and loyalty to the PH..till the show ends..we viewers we just sit and watch but its the PH.channel investment be it financial or team effort they are the one most affected by such decision of an actor say quit in the middle of a serial...
definitely television has lots of scope and with serials the performers get closer to the mass and also with the duration of these serials the actors get to improve more in their acting skills as per their individual characters...
bollywood actors coming to television and television ones getting break on the silver screen a trend more in common now..acting talents..professionalism so obviously an actor will succeed ..

Saveeta They were plannng to make Fauji with SRK and the actor who was in KSBKT but I believe indian gov did'nt give permission to shot in teh army ara for some important scenes

I loved SRK in Fauji his first show , then Circus Circus..
So wished he could stil do television
Some actors are lucky to do Television and go into Bollywood..

Actualy many actors who do in 75 mm screen also give their big portion of time to television which is good..

Apurva in his interview of INBJ said that Televsion and big screen is a lot dfferent which is true in terms of working hours but with media and television getting closer when actors are on television they have a greater margin of getting close to viewers..

Good luck to actors who do get a break into big screen and bollywood, If they have the potential and confident and getting a good role its good to try it out ..

I am sure sulagna is happy abt her role in murder 2 but some day down the line she wuld defiantly want to come back on television where her roots started !

And for actors until its confirmed on doted line that you are casted for the film I think they should finish their present commitments to teh fullest possible bandwidth

I think television actors are no less than big screen actors this is my opion Actully viewers love television actors more than big screen actors and television actors are more close to viewers than big screen actors and the people who do not get chance in big screen are lucky than the people who get chance in bigg screen becuase in bigg screen it is not neccery for every actor to get fame like SRK there are alot of good actors who didnt get fame

Yes I agree..Hope actors remember these things which affects the production house in many ways , apparently there can be some solutions which help the PH also which have been with some cases.

@shanti..yes i remember fauji..circus circus..SRK was good in them
my views television esp serials give a chance for actors to groom themselves more..they have more scope to improve for the better..
positive.negative.grey characters or any avatars given a good performer if he/she will blend himself/herself well in the character definitely they get the mass interest..
a movie is mostly 3 hrs but a serial it can go for yrs meaning more access to the mass and for the actor to give better performance as per his/her sketched character..

Yes Fauji more than SRK I liked teh guy who played Varun .. He used to say I say chaps...Thats his fav dialogue..

I donno if u wathed Sulagana's show Amber Dhara ...
She was the Siamese twins cocept.. She was really good and then another show on Zee then she got her role in Bidaaii..
She is gone up the ladder good for her with Murder 2 ...
Even Prachi desai who did Kasam Se , then she did Rock On and later that movie on Mumbai bomb scare forgot the name..

Good to see these people doing Bollywood, and they should be on television also..
Bollywood has a time line , But television is going endless, new plots new content and it has now elevated to broader spectrum ..
Earlier there was only DD and now so many channels and so many shows, and differnt content ...

I would love to see SRK do small screen acting he came in a show on colors but not as a full fledged acting

You both are right. Tele Actors should never forget that their serial gave them fame and in serial actors can improve alot if they try but in flim they cant also working in television is better than working in flims and i personally think in television is safer place and a place which is gold if i were in those actors place who left tele because of flims then i would never ever do that becuase tele is better than big screen i use to like prachi shilpa nishant i mean i had respect for them but not anymore becuase they left their show in midway lolzzz sorry for mentioning name but could not control my anger and my self
