My attempt at writing a oneshot on Ruhu. Let me know what you guys think.
Unrequited
Rudr looked at the balcony waiting patiently for just one glimpse of his beloved just one glimpse but it never came, she never came instead of making an appearance she sent a token a gift that tore him apart. The empty box sent his world into a spin and brought forth a memory unwillingly. In controlled rage, he gathered all of the tokens of love that she had ever given him and collected them into the empty chest with the intention of discarding them in an attempt of removing the girl of his dreams, the love of his life from his heart, his Pihu. In the haste to leave he did not realize that she had finally made an appearance but alas, he did not see her and she only viewed his retreating figure.
She had known that as soon as she had seen him leave that he had no intention of coming to her for she knew he was angry and it only evoked her fury more. "Let him stay angry, I will not ask for forgiveness, I have not said anything wrong. I was just telling him what I think should be done after we are married; I mentioned it for our benefit! If I had known that he would be so close-minded on the subject I wouldn't have mentioned it but I would not have been able to live with him had what I thought stayed in my head; if I had known he was like this I wouldn't have fallen... ". Closing her eyes in anguish, she could not complete her thought, she refused to do so; but it was also true that this time she would not compromise even if it hurt her to be away from him.
At the banks of the Ganges River, Rudr sat reminiscing about the past, reliving memories that brought him closer to Pihu. "Look at this anklet, every time when you look at it will remind you of me even when I'm not with you will hear my footsteps walking towards you, my love." Smiling at the recent memory, he picked up another artefact that brought him back to his childhood, the telescope. This telescope was what brought him closer to Pihu, as did everything else; even their petty fights with each other, whether they were big or small in magnitude, if one apologized the other acquiesced immediately. She had always the one to ask for forgiveness in all their fights and she only asked this once for him to take the first step and this spat but why is he being adamant, he just couldn't place his feelings but he would at least try but later for now he would just say the words that would mean so much to her and then he would contemplate his feelings. He left the banks in anxiety and new feelings of hope. Upon reaching home, he got ready for his engagement ceremony with Priyamvada. His and only... his Pihu.
There was a new spring in his step as he quickly changed attire for the ceremony. He was waiting for the moment when he would finally get to see her; it was as if his life depended on her one glimpse. Upon entering the venue albeit late he came across the most horrifying sight that shattered his heart and tore his world apart. There was the girl he loved with every fibre of his being, placing a ring on another man's finger and thus vowing that she was forever his! Momentarily breaking out of his trance he charged up to the stage and angrily grasped the hand of the fellow that was about to put the ring on Pihu and silently roared: "How dare you claim Pihu as your own?" The man and Pihu looked bewildered and before Rudr could react Pihu stepped in between and faced her lover and spoke: "Rudr stop, don't make a scene here!" "I'm making a scene? He's the one putting the ring on your finger on our engagement day and you're just letting it happen?" He questioned Pihu. "I want this to happen! I want to be his wife now not yours. I made a mistake in loving you, I want to move on in life and my first step is to forget about you Rudr!" Pihu completed her unfinished thought aloud in front of the man who she once loved.
In a daze, all he could say to his unfaithful beloved was: "How could you? How could you say that you loved me with all your heart and then deceive me, deceive your heart, deceive our love by reaching out to another, while you left us behind; how could you Pihu?" Disgusted, Rudr stepped away from the podium as incessant tears gathered in his eyes and blurred his vision, he rushed to the gates and towards his car in a drunken stupor that he could not hear his family call out to him. Igniting the vehicle, he drove as fast as he could just so that he could get away; he drove through the rain, the skies felt his pain and poured but unaware of the skies, Rudr drove just so that he could forget everything about his childhood, his family, his love, his life.
"THUD!" The car hit against something on the road yet his mind did not register that he had possibly run someone over and had to stop. He did not hear the scream of horror as a name was called: "UMANG!" He just kept on driving until he got to his final stop, his destination. He had been here many times before but something about his visit to the riverbanks today was different. Earlier he had come to be rid of his love but had left with renewed hope to win back his love, however now he came to be cleansed, to attain his salvation from the love of his unrequited; he moved with heavy steps to the banks with the chest of mementos his hands and allowed his lips to move in silent prayer. Keeping the chest close to his heart, he stepped into the water and each step that Rudr took brought him closer to salvation, to freedom, from the love that he felt for his unfaithful lover and like the chest full of tokens, he flowed with the currents until he disappeared, attaining his freedom.
