Star Plus in association with Fox Television Studio is all ready to roll out its new show Sangam. The love saga revolves around the lead character Ganga, a small town intelligent and ambitious girl. who falls in love with Sagar aka Chaitanya Chaudhary. Slotted at 7.00 pm on Star Plus, the show has

Jennifer Winget in the lead.

"Ganga believes in following her dreams and doing the best for her family. She strives to fulfil her father's hopes and dreams," she says.

On being asked how she can relate herself with these two characters she said, "Sneha is a completely different character from what I am playing in Sangam. The reason for me to take up this show is that though Kasautii has given me recognition but I was always looking for strong characters. This is completely different from what I have done in the past. I am looking forward to this venture," laughs out Jennifer.

Other actors such as Chaitanya Chaudhary and Shaleen Bhanot will carry forward the story to another level. Last seen in Kahiin Toh Hoga, the actor say, "I play Sagar, a calm guy who believes in family values. The story unfolds when the plot reveals that Ganga is not the only girl in his life. He's already committed to a girl since childhood chosen by his family. But later Sagar realises that he has fallen in love with Ganga and now its time to decide on his love or family values," he adds.

Shaleen, who essays the role of Madan, the bad guy in the story says, "I love to essay a negative role as it gives me an opportunity to show my creative side. Madan also loves Ganga from the bottom of his heart and wants her at any cost. It's a completely different role from what I have played earlier," adds Shaleen.

To go back to see old Mumbai of 1950's and 1960's, the black and white era. Also, I want the power to read the minds of people.

Ekta rocks them and how!

TV queen Ekta Kapoor's much awaited bash at Krishna bungalow was a blast. Apparently, a belated birthday celebration it had all the hotties from TV in

Ekta Kapoor with Hiten Tejwani at a party in Bohemia

attendance. Ekta true to herself made an entrance at about 1:30 am. And the place just sizzled after that, as she went around with her cocktail test tubes and forced them down her cast's and friends' throats.

Until she arrived brother Tusshar made up for her absence, looking smart and clean, standing close to the bar, giving the likes of Ken Ghosh, Manish Malhotra, Urmila Matondkar, Issha Kopikar, Neelam Kothari, and Goldie Behl company.

Hiten Tejwani came flexing his hairy biceps and with wife Gauri looking slim as a reed and headed straight for the drinks counter. Shabbir Ahluwalia looked sharp with his hair tucked into a peak cap (which later Ekta pulled off and tried for a moment before flopping it back on to his head). All the other Ekta regulars were in attendance: Yash and Gauri Tonk, Chaitanya Choudhary, Eijaz Khan, Anita Hassanandani, Reva Babbar (she needs to lose a few pounds), Narayani Shastri, (making a fashion statement by wearing a dress which displayed her broad hips), Ali Hassan (why has he disappeared from the screen), Manasi Verma (the graceful dancer is gradually gaining weight), Bobby Darling (she went into a clinch with Shabbir as soon as she entered Krishna), Roshni Chopra, Sanjeeda, Rakshanda Khan (she hung around with Anita, Ken, Salil Chaturvedi and a young kid who is being touted as the next biggest thing to hit film after Jaaved Akhtar), Ali Asgar (he is awaiting the release of his films), Gaurav Gera (he spent time with the affable Sony programming head Anupama Mandloi).
Kiran Karmakar and his wife Rinku, Chetan Hansraj and his wife Lavina, Pawan Shankar and his gorgeous wife Yukti, Rajeev and Raakesh Paul, the prodigal Prabhat Bhattacharyya, sweet Nikhil Aryya, the chocolate pin up Naman Shah, Urvashi Dholakia, Jennifer Winget, Preeta Puri, Mushtaq, Anupam Verma, Suneeta Menon, Amit Tandon, Vikas Sethi, Sanjit Bedi, Kushal Punjabi, Aamir Ali, Hiten Paintal and Kishwar, Anoop Soni and his wife, creative director Nivedita Basu, The channels too were represented: Aparna Pandey from Zoom, Sony's Gursheel Walia, and as mentioned earlier the likeable Anupama Mondloi. Shockingly, no one senior from Star or Zee was visible to the team.

The senior crowd was represented Deepak Parasher, Kailash and Aarti Surendranath, Madhuri Bhatia, Dolly Thakore, Bharati Acherakar, Sushmita Mukherji, Mita Vashist, Vikram Kapadia, and singer Sapna Mukherji.

The highlight of the evening was when one of the older totally sloshed TV actresses and pulled yesteryear film heroine friend's hair and asked her who she was. The film actress turned around and told her she was sick and frustrated. The altercation went on for a while close to the elevator before the older actress was sent packing home. Ekta too joined in the fun later with the film heroine and she indulged in some boisterous girlie banter.

The party continued till the wee hours of the morning and when the Tellychkkar.com team left it looked like it had a lot of life in it. Ekta, you rock! Keep going!

Low key Christmas for telly stars

Christmas is one of the most popular festivals amongst our stars. No matter what faith they belong to, the all get together for a fun filled time at this time of the year. But this year it doesn't look the same. Still haunted by the terror attacks that traumatized the whole city last month, the stars plan to keep their celebrations low key.

Jennifer Winget

I will not celebrate this year because of the attacks that just happened. It will be a very small get together with family and friends this time. Every year we go to the church and later on have a blast at night.

Battle of the sexes
Jennnifer Winget and Chaitanya Choudhary

Girls are better cooks, but most chefs are men. Men are physically stronger but girls are more capable of getting what they want. So who is the better, the stronger, the more powerful of the two? The battle of the sexes has raged since Adam and Eve, but no one has ever been able to pronounce a verdict.

But that is exactly what STAR One is aiming to do with Zara Nachke Dikha ' a dance reality show that pits boys against girls in a bid to gauge who is better, at least when it comes to having the better pair of dancing feet.

Launched at the ITC Grand Central Mumbai on Monday evening, Zara Nachke Dikha will have eight boys and an equal number of girls trying to outdo each other on a dance stage over 11 weeks. "In a complete departure from the other dance reality shows seen on Indian television so far, Zara Nachke Dikha introduces the unique concept of pitting the men against the women, a format that is sure to capture the imagination of the audience," said Ravi Menon, EVP-GM, STAR One.

What will also set apart Zara Nachke Dikha from its predecessors is the novel process of elimination that STAR One and

producers SOL have hit upon. "The eight girls and eight boys will compete as two teams. Unlike other shows, there will be no elimination process every week. The weakest participant is penalised, but not eliminated, and the team will have to work doubly hard to get him or her back into the team," explained Menon.

The audience will have no say in terms of public voting with all the power vested in the hands of the judges till they come up with a final winner, or rather a winning team. Due to air sometime in mid July, the show producers are yet to decide on the host and the judges, but promise that they will be "the best in the business".

While Zara Nachke Dikha may boast of some uniqueness in its format, the participants are all familiar faces on television, many of whom have already tried their luck in one reality show or the other. The boys' team comprises Manish Goel, Chaitanya Choudhury, Gaurav Chopra, Amit Tandon, Vikas Sethi, Ali Asgar, Bakhtiyaar Iraani and child actor Amey Pandya. The girls in the battlefield will be Karishma Tanna, Maninee De, Rupali Ganguli, Jennifer Winget, Narayani Shastri, Mouni Roy, Delnaaz Paul and Swini Khara (little 'Sexy' of Cheeni Kum).

And they all have their reasons to participate in Zara Nachke Dikha. "This is my first reality show and there couldn't have been a

better debut for me than Zara Nachke Dikha," said Balaji man Chaitanya, while for television host and actor Maninee, the chance to rub shoulders with "some wonderful dancers and even better co-actors" was the reason.

But the clincher lay in the concept. "It's time we decided who is better between the girls and the boys," said one and all.

Star Plus' new offering, Sangam, is all ready to rule the Prime Time......

Audience expectations get high as Star Plus and Fox Studios announce the launch of their new show, Sangam!!

By encouraging unending twists, new shows and tons of leaps, Star Plus has becoming one of the most popular channels on Indian Television. Whether it is a tried and tested formula or an entirely new concept, Star Plus' magic seems to work each and every time as the channel holds on to its number one position since the past six years.
Adding to the string of new shows from the channel is a brand new show produced by Fox Television Studios, titled Sangam.

After its successful primetime show 'Meri Awaaz Ko Mil Gayi Roshni', Fox Television Studios is all set to launch a new daily soap in the new prime time slot of 7 p.m. on Star Plus to be launched on August 20th. Sangam is the story of Ganga, a small town girl, who selflessly rejects every opportunity that comes her way & puts the interests of others before her own aspirations, and emerges heroic. Ganga is an intelligent and ambitious girl who believes in following her dreams and doing the best for her family.

Sangam has roped in a strong cast led by Jennifer Winget who would play role of Ganga. Other big names in this show include Chaitanya Chaudhary and a strong performance from newcomer Shaleen Bhanot who plays the character of Madan.

Deepak Sehgal of Fox quotes, "Star is our sister concern, Star helped Fox to set up studios in India, hence we will collaborate on production for least next 6 months to a year. Unfortunately, today's television has a defined audience. They pretty much themselves decide what they want to see. We have tried out different shows on Star Plus as well as Star One like Remix, Siddhant etc and though we received fantastic reviews for all of them, none fetched the TRP. There is a set audience which watch television day in and day out, probably that is their window to the outer world. The other kind would probably be having dinner somewhere when a show is on."

Talking about Sangam, Deepak says, "Sangam, much as we would like otherwise, offers nothing radically different. We have made the locales look different, rather than move them into a palatial building and do everything. So you will see a lot of natural locales. However, eventually, the show will move into a track where the protagonist and the antagonist will have to co exist within the confines of four walls." On asked whether in this glamour splattered world of Indian TV, a simplistic show like Sangam would work, Deepak was quick to comment, "The glamour quotient will be there, with the hero belonging to a rich family. I guess that is expected, if we want to add to the value of the shows. The audience has come to expect a certain masala, and the rich background is a given. The Balaji Telefilms have turned into an art, an if we have to compete, we have to compete on the same level. The story will have a lot to offer, and hopefully, that, at the end is what will hook the audience onto it."

Jennifer Winget who plays the Protagonist of the show, Ganga is very excited about her role. According to her, "The story revolves around Ganga, a young girl with lots of dreams in mind and ambitions to achieve in life. Along with her dream, is coupled her father's vision and her father's expectation towards her. It is the story of Ganga who moves forward in life to fulfill her dreams, faces hurdles, overcomes problems and the manner in which she struggles to keep the strong bond with her father intact, all thro' her life." When quizzed whether this story will develop into yet another love triangle, Jennifer says, "At a certain point, the character played by Chaitanya enters Ganga's life and this is her love-angle. Shaleen plays a negative character"'

This is what the 'Agni' of Tellydom, Shaleen Bhanot has to say about his role, "Madan is a complete black character. There is no goodness in him. He is an awesome character, will prove to be a stand-out, never attempted in TV so far. The way the character sketch has been done is mindblowing. Madan is the surprise package of the show." On asked whether Madan will look similar to Agni, Shaleen quotes, "Agni was a grey character and he had reasons for being bad. Here, Madan is all the more Bad. U never know what the guy will do next. The way his scenes have been conceived is beautiful. Nowhere will Madan resemble Agni. His look, body movement, talk, accent are all different from Agni. He will be wearing kurtas, mufflers, with whole lot of jewellery and will sport a 'Theeka' on his forehead."

On asked whether Madan will still retain the Shaleen Bhanot personified 'Kaajal', Shaleen bursts out laughing, acclaims "Yes, this is one similarity Madan has to Agni. I never wanted to get away from Kajal, all thanks to you fans of India Forums and all my well wishers. Apart from this, the channel too wanted me to have it. In this serial, I will have Surma instead of Kaajal. It is bit different, but the black part is still there." "Madan is not in love with the protagonist, Ganga. But he wants her just because she is the prettiest girl in town. He does not love her, but wants her at any cost..", Shaleen adds on.

Looks like Star Plus is showing no signs of stopping by catering one hit show after another. It remains to be seen whether Star Plus' and Fox Television Studios' new offering, Sangam, will be able to touch the hearts of its viewers and prove to be another winner for the production house and the channel. Till then, stay tuned for more inside information in the world of tellydom!

Jennifer, the stunt woman!

Looks like cry baby Jennifer 'Sneha' Winget has finally grown up! The actor has just signed on her first lead role with Fox production's new show for Star Plus titled Sangam.

"I play the protagonist Ganga and the story revolves around my trials and tribulations. It traces the character's growth from an ordinary girl to a woman of substance, Right now, I can't reveal more about the show," says Jennifer flashing her cute smile.

So what attracted you towards Sangam ? "It's a very positive and strong role; quite unlike my Kasauti character."

Just how kicked Jennifer is for the success of this show can be gauged by the fact that she was even ready to do some adventurous stunt shots (hanging from a dam) during their Panchgani outdoor recently.

"These scenes were essential and formed an important part of the narrative, hence I attempted them.

I wasn't really scared; in fact I was quite excited. Swinging in the air from left to right at that height was one experience which I'll never forget! Some of the scenes even required the safety harness to be removed, but by then the adrenaline rush was so high, that I agreed to it as well. My co stars Chaitanya Chaudhary and Shaleen were really shocked. They were literally begging me to change my mind," says this die hard Spider Man fan.

To us this sounds more like a scene from some outdoor adventure reality show rather than a afternoon slot soap opera. We wonder if she would try her hand at a desi version of the Survivor.

STAR PLUS' LAUNCHES SANGAM

An Insight on Star Plus new offering Sangam, read to know more!

After the success of - Meri Awaaz ko Mil gayi Roshini, Fox television studios, India hits off with its new show - Sangam. Based on a regional Indian girl who has set her walk into the real world to fulfill her father's dream, the story revolves around Ganga, who is like the son of the family. Ganga often goes out of her way to help out those in need, for her helping people in need comes before her own aspirations. We talk to the stars of Sangam and get an insight to the story, their experience shooting, and much more.

After bagging the role of Sneha in Kasauti Zindagi Ki, Jennifer Winget now plays the female protaganist - Ganga in Sangam. Brave and confident, independent and aspiring is what truly defines Ganga. Extremely close to her father, daddy's little angel takes the sole responslibity of making her father's dream into reality. On asked about her take on the story, Jennifer says, "It's a story of a girl who is from a small middle class family, but has always been treated like a princess. She leaves her father and comes to the city, and there she goes thru many twists and turns." When asked Jennifer that what truly makes this show different, she answered, "This show is different with the concept and the way it has been potrayed."

Next we have the one person who is the apple of the Ganga's eyes - Master Deena Nath. Masterji (what he is popularly known as) is a man of Morals. Highly respected for his principles, Masterji has dedicated his life to the development of the town - Kundanpur. After been seen in shows such as KumKum, Shishir Sharma will now be seen as Master Deena Nath in the new show.

In Indian television, every female protagonist show comes with an added baggage - a female villain. In Ganga's life the female villain is her own aunt - Rano Bua. Loud and obnoxious are just a few of the many shades of Rano Bua. We talk to Neelu Kohli who plays the vamp in the show, and get an insight to her side of the story. "I have put in a lot of input into the show. The director has wonderfully groomed us. Right from how natural it should be talking with paan in your mouth, to even making sure that everything is just perfect with the ambience of the set, is just mind blowing. The details that they have shown in the show, is what makes this show unique", says the new vamp in the making..

Like every princess has her prince charming, so does Ganga. Ganga comes face to face with a man, who resembles her. Sagar Bhatia (played by Chaitanya Choudhary) is a young dynamic man with power and success. Sagar cannot stand injustice done to anyone. Very tough looking from outside, Sagar is just as caring from the inside. Lets see what Chaitanya had to say about the story and his character. "I am playing the character of Sagar, just as my name - sagar, I am very calm and composed, and very deep. Sagar plays opposite Ganga, but there is someone else in his life, who he has made promises to."

Any story cannot be completed without the 'bad man'. Yes, Ganga has a villan in her life who is all set to ruin her happy fairy tale. Madan, played by Shaleen Banot, is a wealthy goon in Kundanpur. Right from the local landlord to the biggest names in the city, all are scared of him. Madan however, has lost his heart to Ganga, and will go to any extent to get her. Lets see what Shaleen Banot has to say about this. "I play a really nice guy in the show. Very well cultured, I own an orphanage. Madan takes care of everyone (laughter) ok, jokes apart, Madan is a very paranoid guy. Madan does something wrong, because he is wrong. He is a negative, and there is no excuse to him being so"

When asked what truly makes the show unique, the creator of Bhabhi, Meri Awaz Ko Mil Gayee Roshini and Sangam replied: "The story is like, the way Gangotri flows from Shivji's Jatyu, and flows out to the world. The same way, Sangam's Ganga leaves her father and goes out into the world. We are not trying to do something drastically different, as we want to target all audiences."

Will this show satisfy viewers' expectations? Or will it be another show gone unnoticed due to the repetitive concept? Well only time and the audience appreciation can tell. Catch Star's newest daily soap, starting 20th August from Monday to Thursday at 7:00pm.
