It was the toughest time for Randhir and his family. Renuka was already broken as she had lost her husband with whom she had spent 30 years of her life and now he was no more in her life. For her, her world had come to an end. She wanted escape from the circumstances. Everything came as a nightmare to her.

She was sitting in her room. It seemed that there was no life in her body - no movement in her body, her gaze was just stuck at the window. Just then, Shinu crawled inside the room. The Baby was cheerful like always. She was smiling and the saliva was oozing out of her open mouth, but she was carefree. She made some sounds which caught Renuka's attention. This was the first time She actually was noticing her grand-daughter. She came to Renuka when she had lost her husband, she was so much drowned in gloom of losing her husband that she couldn't notice her grand-daughter. She immediately wished that Harsh could have met Shinu, he left without even seeing her.

Renuka came off the bed and picked the baby up in her arms. Shinu was looking at her with a shock. Renuka was a stranger to her whom she had never seen before. She kept her tiny arms on Renuka's chest and was just gawking at her face. Renuka too was looking her. The baby was adorable and was priceless to her as she was her son's child. For Renuka, Shinu was the exact copy of Randhir, like every mother feels that the children of her children look like her own children, no matter whether they do or not! Indeed, Shinu was one of the most-good looking and adorable babies, but for Renuka, she was the prettiest for her. A lone tear escaped out of her eye, as she missed Harsh terribly besides her.

Shinu moved her tiny palm on Renuka's cheek almost like wiping her tears. She then screamed loudly and slapped Renuka softly as if asking her to stop crying. Renuka immediately stopped crying looking at her cute antics. Then the Baby smiled which brought smile on Renuka's face and she hugged the baby immediately. She finally found solace in her grand-daughter's arms, which no one could give her, not even Randhir could. She was smiling now but her eyes were still watery.

Sanyukta went running inside their (Randhir and Sanyukta) bedroom and saw Randhir sitting at the edge of the bed all lost in his thoughts. Sanyukta was huffing as she was worried.

Sanyukta: Randhirrr...

she spoke with hesitation as she didn't want to disturb him, but she didn't have any other option. He blinked twice and looked at her, but didn't say anything.

Sanyukta: I can't find Shinu anywhere. I have searched every corner of the house, but she isn't anywhere. (she sounded worried)

He got up immediately and went out of the room without saying anything. Sanyukta found it weird as he had not been talking to her since the time they had come to Mumbai, he never spoke a word with her. She set aside all those thoughts and too ran after him.

Randhir looked for Shinu everywhere. He got worried as she was too young and small in size. Anything could happen to her. He now had started panicking. Sanyukta had the same condition. She was now into tears as her only baby was missing.

Running to every corner of the house, Randhir halted at one of the balconies of the house. His gaze fell on his mother standing in the garden holding Shinu in her arms. After his father's death, he was seeing her smiling for the first time. She was cuddling his daughter and the baby was laughing loudly with her. Both of them were enjoying with each other.

Sanyukta came running to the room and saw Randhir standing still in the balcony. She went after him and saw Renuka with Shinu, sighed in relief, then her gaze fell on Randhir who was smiling looking at them. A soft smile too crept on her face. She was standing still looking at everyone, her husband, her daughter and her mother-in-law - they were all smiling after so long. Soon the baby started crying, Sanyukta turned around to leave the place and rush to Shinu, but Randhir caught her hand and pulled her back.

Randhir: Don't! Mom will take care of her. (he said sternly)

Sanyukta: But...

Randhir: After so many days, she is smiling, please don't snatch this moment from her.

He indeed used the word "please" in his sentence, but his tone was ordering. His eyes showed that he was still angry with her. No matter whatever had happened in his life, he had not forgotten what happened between him and her. She felt this coldness in his tone - even his grip on her arms was tight which gave her slight pain but she didn't wince. She bore all the pain as she could feel his inner turmoil which he was going through. He had lost her father, which was no less than a shock to him.

Sanyukta moved forward to soothe him but he showed her his hand signaling her to stop right there as he didn't need her at all. She somewhere felt rejected. She genuinely wanted to be there for him but he was in no mood to accept her.

Randhir: Shinu is safe with Mom, you don't worry. WE will not harm her.

He purposely stressed more on the word "we" making her feel that she should be happy that he didn't consider her a part of his family and her daughter was safe with them removing her insecurities. She somewhere felt pinched to her heart. She didn't like this behavior, she was there with them as a part of his family, but...

Sanyukta: what happened Randhir? Why are you behaving so cold with me?

He clenched his jaw, jerked her hand away and left the place without saying anything. She was by now pretty much frustrated with his response but kept mum as she didn't want any fuzz in those circumstances.

A few more days passed, Renuka had found her happiness in Shinu, she used to spend all her time with her, Shinu too used to enjoy her company. Sanyukta and Randhir were relieved to see that. Sanyukta never became a barrier between them. She too was happy that Renuka was recovering.

It was the thirteenth day after Harsh's demise, tairva - it was the funeral day. All the relatives and friends were collected at Shekhawat House to pray for dead soul to rest in peace. Renuka and Randhir were sitting in the middle near Harsh's photo which was kept in the front. Sanyukta too was sitting next to Renuka and Shinu was sleeping in her lap. The atmosphere was gloomy and everyone present there was consoling Renuka and Randhir. Kishore and Anju too came there and were shocked to see Sanyukta there. They knew that Randhir had left her with Shinu, still she was there, came as a shock to them. The couple didn't say anything as the situation wasn't apt, but Kishore didn't leave a chance to leave a glare at Shinu and Sanyukta in disgust!

After all the rituals were done, Sanyukta was taking care of everyone but then Shinu started crying because of the crowed which assembled in the house. Baby saw so many people flooded in the house for the first time, which indeed scared. She took the baby out of the house was walking in the garden. She was showing her birds and trees to divert her mind. Just then Kishore and Anju saw her. Anju came running to Sanyukta as she was very happy to see her after so long. She immediately pulled her in a hug.

Anju had been craving for her daughter so as Sanyukta. She pecked Sanyukta's cheeks and then took Shinu from her. Anju kissed Shinu's forehead too and blessed her. The moment was blissful for all of them but Kishore came as a devil between them.

Kishore: ANJU! Chalo yahan se. (he screamed making Anju shivered in fear)

Sanyukta: Papa...aap...

Kishore: Just shut up, you! What the hell are you doing here?

Sanyukta: Papa, what kind of question is that?

Kishore: Randhir has left you, still you are here. You are so shameless. Anju, leave this child here and come. (he started pulling Anju)

Sanyukta: what are you doing, papa? (Sanyukta tried to protest)

Kishore in return slapped her hard.

Kishore: ENOUGH! Ek toh beti paida kardi and you are still here. I am happy that Randhir has left you. You deserve this. Now take this child of yours and leave from here.

Kishore turned around and saw Randhir standing there in front of him. He was glaring at him.

Kishore: Randhir beta, I...I... am happy that you've left her on a right time. I wish I could have also left her mother that time. Girls are curse on this earth!

Sanyukta and Anju were into tears now. Anju felt weak but Sanyukta by now was fuming in anger. she was still quiet as she wanted to see what Randhir felt about her. She knew that he loved Shinu a lot, but she wanted to see how would he take stand for her? or would he take stand for Shinu? She didn't care about herself, but she wanted to see what kind of a father he was for Shinu?

Randhir first glanced at her and then Shinu in Anju's arms. He then looked at Kishore and smirked.

Randhir: You know what Papa? I just hope, Anju Maa would have left you at right time. She doesn't deserve you. She deserves much better. You have spoiled her life and my wife's too. Girls are no curse to this earth, men like you are curse to everyone. And how dare you to even touch my wife? She no more belongs to you. You have no right on her. Also, I am proud to have a daughter like Shinu. She is my happiness and who told you that I had left Sanyukta no because she gave me a girl, we had some issues between us so we had a tiff. Let me make one thing very clear to you Mr. Kishore Agarwal, if someone else has slapped her or even touched her in place of you, I would have killed that bas***d! I want you to leave you right now before I forget to respect elders. And Anju Maa, I want you to leave him, your daughter is there to take care for you. She is stronger than you.

Sanyukta was taken away with his last line. She had never imagined that he would take a stand for her like this. He had always considered as a weak woman and now, he was calling her strong. He had fought with her father for her and Shinu, even asked her mother to come out that house. She was standing mum and gawking at him who was still ignoring to look at her.

Kishore looked at Sanyukta and Anju. He was very angry now. He walked close to Anju and tried to pull Shinu from Anju. The baby started crying. Sanyukta tried to stop him. Randhir ran towards Anju and took the baby before Kishore. He then pulled Sanyukta in his embrace by wrapping his arm around her protectively. She was looking at him and rubbed her palm on Shinu's arm to pacify her. He was holding Shinu in his other arm. The situation was serious than ever.

Randhir: you shouldn't have done that. They are my family and no one can harm my family. This is for the last time I am warning you, LEAVE!

Kishore finally took that as a warning and left the place with Anju. Sanyukta was still looking at Randhir and he finally looked at her. Something was changing. She was feeling safe in his arms. She was feeling secure there. A new trust was building inside her. She wanted to trust him but still holding herself back.

Randhir: Are you okay?

Sanyukta: hmmm

A lone tear escaped out of her eyes. She looked down as she was anticipating that he would soothe her and wipe those tears, but to her surprise - he left her and hugged Shinu tightly.

Randhir: Everything will be fine Sanyukta. Come inside.

He left the place with Shinu and went inside. She was looking down in shock. She didn't understand his behavior. He had been behaving cold with her for so many days. She knew the matter, but still was confused. She wasn't happy. When she wanted him to behave with her like before like a love struck husband, but now...

As the days passed, Randhir's ignorance increased. He was there to help her but he rarely talked to her. Renuka's closeness to Shinu had increased which was a relief to everyone as she was now recovering more from everything.

Randhir was sitting in his room and Sanyukta entered in there. He looked at her but still kept quiet. She looked down and walked straight to the cupboard.

Randhir: Sanyukta...I need to talk to you.

Sanyukta: hmmm, bolo (she still kept looking inside the cupboard, looking for something.

Randhir: what are you searching?

Sanyukta: Shinu's cap. I kept it here and now, I don't know where it has gone.

Randhir: You can use the other one. Look here, I need to take something important.

She paused and turned around. He was very serious in his tone. She understood that something was wrong. She turned around and scowled.

Randhir: Come here, Sanyukta and sit.

She nodded and sat in front of him.

Randhir: Sanyukta, listen to me very carefully - Mom doesn't know anything about us and as of now, I don't want to tell her anything. She is going through a lot right now. I see her happy with Shinu. I am planning to take her along with me to Pune or I will try to get a transfer here in Mumbai. I cannot leave Mom alone. Nisha Massi is going to stay here with her for a few days but after that, I'll be here.

Sanyukta: Randhirrr...I... was thinking that once I wrap up in Pune, I can come here to live and take care of Mom, only if you don't mind.

She didn't know why she said so but she wanted to be there. She wanted be the part of his family back, maybe she already was. She truly wanted to take care of Renuka, keeping aside all the problems she had been facing with Randhir.

Randhir: are you sure?

He sounded surprised as she was saying what he wanted. Maybe she had read his mind.

Sanyukta: She is my mother too Randhir. I don't know what is our future together but that is not going to affect my relations with your family as it is my family too.

Randhir: Sanyukta... thanks.

He smiled finally. She smiled in return. She wanted to talk more but didn't. They were looking into each other's eyes quietly. She could feel his pain so she moved her hand and kept it on his hand, giving him a soft squeeze of condolence. His smile vanished and he became serious. He took his hand back and looked away. She again felt rejected. She could feel the awkwardness in the air. She didn't like that. He buried his face in his palm resting his elbows on his thighs and breathed heavy. She saw this and felt bad. She got up and went out of the room. Whereas, Randhir took out his face from his hands and kept looking at her till she got disappeared.

It has been a month now, Randhir and Sanyukta were ready to leave for Pune the next day. They were caught up with packing and other preparations. Just then the doorbell rang and Sanyukta and opened the door. She saw Randhir's cousin Vivek standing in front of her. He was a college student lived in Delhi with his family. He smiled at her stepped inside without any invitation. Randhir and Sanyukta never liked him as he was a total flirt. Randhir had always asked Sanyukta to maintain some distance from him, so she did. The way he looked at her and every girl had always disgusted her. Still they kept quiet as he was a very close relative and they didn't want to spoil their relations.

Soon Randhir's uncle and aunt entered inside. They couldn't come at the time of funeral ceremonies, so they were marking their presence now. They consoled Renuka, shed some tears, cuddled Shinu and then had tea, coffee and other snacks.

Sanyukta was inside the kitchen when Renuka, Vivek and Randhir's Aunt entered in. Shinu was with Randhir's Aunt. Sanyukta looked at Vivek who was still mischievously scanning her from top to bottom. She adjusted her dupatta as she sensed his intentions.

Renuka came out of the kitchen when she heard her phone ringing. Randhir's aunt gave Shinu to Sanyukta and too came out. Vivek was still standing there. She felt uncomfortable and got engrossed in work. Shinu was as usual very cheered up. She was jumping in her arms, her arm touched the milk tumbler and it fell down on the floor, spilling the whole milk all over.

Sanyukta: SHIT! What do you do, beta?

She was looking here and there thinking about how to clean the floor.

Vivek: Bhabhi, you give her to me.

He offered help. Sanyukta nodded and gave Shinu to her. Randhir was passing by and saw Vivek holding Shinu. He scowled. He kept quiet but he was watching his moves as he didn't trust him. He didn't want him to harm Sanyukta. But Vivek was all busy with playing with Shinu. He was cuddling her and the baby was enjoying with him. Sanyukta on the other hand, was sitting on the floor, wiping the floor. She was just listening to Shinu's voice and was assured that she was fine. Randhir was now satisfied and was about to turn around to leave when he heard a weird sound made by Shinu. He looked back and saw Vivek's hand was inside Shinu's nappy and his lips were locked with hers. The baby was in pain and wanted to scream but couldn't as Vivek had covered her mouth with hers. She was struggling to get free but couldn't. Randhir ran inside.

Randhir: VIVEK! (he screamed loudly)

Vivek immediately stopped what he was doing, Sanyukta too got scared of this sudden commotion made by Randhir. She immediately got up and looked at Randhir who was snatching Shinu from the bas***d! She had no clue what has happened.

Vivek: Bhai, see she started crying... I don't know what happened! (he tried to clarified but fear was clearly visible on his face)

Randhir looked at Sanyukta and gave Shinu to her.

Randhir: Are you mad or what? You know that he is a bas***d and still you gave Shinu to him. (he yelled at her.)

Sanyukta was about to say something but before she could say anything she saw Randhir gave a tight slap to Vivek.

Randhir: HOW DARE YOU? How dare you to do this to my daughter? Sanyukta, call the police right now.

Sanyukta: But Randhirrr...

Randhir: Just do as I say. And you, bas***d!

He gave Vivek a few more punches and kicks. All got collected in the kitchen. Randhir told everyone what Vivek did to his daughter. They were all stunned. Vivek's parents didn't believe him. They even tried to run out of the place but till then the cops were already there. They took him with him and also asked Randhir and Sanyukta to take Shinu to the hospital immediately for medical checkup. Sanyukta was already in trauma but Randhir was into his sense. He did what the police has asked him to do. Sanyukta and Randhir were in the hospital. Sanyukta was inside the checkup room and Randhir was waiting outside. The baby was unconscious as was given anesthesia, after a few minutes, Randhir was called inside the room by the doctor.

Randhir: what happened doctor? Is everything alright?

Doctor: Your baby is molested by insertion in her organs. Her body is too young for such intercourse, due to which she had a little bleeding. It is clear that She had got molested. Rest of the details will be given in the reports.

Randhir choked. His eyes were red and teary. He wanted cry but at the same time wanted to kill Vivek. He walked close to Shinu's bed and saw her sleeping peacefully but he could feel her pain. Then he saw Sanyukta sitting on a bench laying near her bed. She was motionless, gawking at her daughter without even blinking. She was indeed traumatized the whole incident. He too sat next to her. The couple was just staring at their child who had been molested just a few hours ago. They were broken, they were shattered, they were almost dead. They kept on gawking at her, time was running but for them it had stopped!
