Chapter I
The house stood like a giant fortress with sidewalls enormous enough to be seen from the moon. The grandeur of the place belittled the intentions of the duo, but they had to finish what they had started! The line had to be tread with extreme caution unlike the earlier traps. The howling of a mutt at a distance ensconced the grating sounds their feet made on the gravel. Breathing heavily and with a hint of fear in their eyes they set out on the mission.
RD meekly stared at the wall he had to ascend, "Are you sure , this is the right address?" RD turned to ask Parth.
"Scared of climbing ,eh?"Parth smirked at RD's fear of acrophobia.
"Shut up Parth , this is no place to fool around," RD barked at him, masking his dormant fear.
RD stared at the wall for another second and with unrelenting grit scaled the wall and landed on the other side with a loud thump. "Ssshhh RD,you will alert the guards , can't you be a little less noisy?Parth glared at RD and signaled him to be quiet as he heard someone approaching them. A security guard had left his place to check the source of the clang that had disrupted his midnight siesta. They turned back quickly and hid behind the bushes. As soon as the guard came close, a strong blow knocked him cold.
"There, this one is out of the way now, lets get going,"RD eyed Parth who shot a nervous glance at him.
RD patted Parth's back and assured him, "Don't worry, luck is always on our side!"
He was right! Surely, it was their lucky day. Lady luck was beaming down on them, rather, walking right into their trap. A few meters away, Parth saw a lone shadow lurking in the garden. When the figure turned sideways he caught a glimpse of her resplendent face, basking in the intoxicated moonlight. He noticed her black jet tresses flowing on her petite frame. Parth looked askance at the photo in his hands and then near the copses. Yes, this had to be her! He tapped RD's shoulder and drew his attention towards the bushes. RD at once got on his toes and started inching towards the shadow. They were tracing a path behind the bushes when suddenly RD heard a muffled yelp. He turned back to find Parth supine on the ground. He bent down to check what exactly had brought about the mighty fall when he accidentally squashed a carelessly flung metallic can.
"Shit, " RD cursed himself for creating this disturbance, "Quick Parth, get on your feet, now!"
" RD ,my foot seems to be entangled in some sort of a cable, I cant see..." His voice trailed off as he saw a pair of eyes peering at them through the bushes.
"Who's there?" Vidushi called out in a quivering voice. Before she could let out a yell, her cry was muffled by RD who had swiftly leapt out of the bushes and pressed his hands over her mouth. By the time Parth indulged in his petty struggle with the cable and emerged victorious, RD had already finished his job. Vidushi had drifted off to a state of stupefied bliss as dollops of the anesthetic had worked its charm.
"Parth,quick, we need to move, we need to get back to the car!" RD spoke in an anxious voice . Even in his anxiety he was damn relieved when they didn't have to scale the wall on their way back. Their vehicle purred to life in the silence of the night. As he saw the house trailing behind him, Parth sighed sadly.
Yet another abduction,yet another life! He never realized when this had become a routine.
"You never think about the path that we choose,"Parth spoke in a hushed tone.
"I don't act and regret," RD kept it crisp and curt , just like him.
"Doesn't it bite you, at times ?"
"I have never been a saintly figure like you Parth, my conscious does allow me to crossover to the dark side!" RD replied.
"Luke, I am your father , join me , " Parth spoke in a raspy whisper.
"Chuck it out , you never were and never will be, I was and will always be the perfect Darth! " RD smiled.
Parth hit a selfie hi-five in his mind.He had managed to do the impossible, make RD smile. He gloated at his achievement , afterall, he was the only person who could do so. His mind galloped to the day when Parth and RD had met for the first time, they had hated each others guts . They had always needed a reason to butt heads with each other.As time and tide wait for no one ,they didn't wait for these two as well!Things started changing and in due course of time their friendship had run deep and strong.They had flown like two unbridled streams which had hit rocky bottom at times, but eventually, the confluence had come at a time when they needed each other the most. Since then, they had never left each other's side. These two were as different as chalk and cheese yet were connected from deep within. RD loved to play the devil incarnate, but that was just an impersonation. The real self was far more complex yet easy to digest. Parth, on the other hand was like an open book albeit with a password, if you tried to hack into him, he would only block you further.
"Why did Bhai change the location this time? " RD inquired , snapping Parth out of his emotional flashback. Parth shrugged his shoulders "His wish is our command. We just do as he says. Do we have a choice?"
"Just saying, not that I care! Darn,I do care, this stupid GPS is not working. We were supposed to take her to a new location, let me try again." RD murmured while fumbling with the directions.
Parth left RD to struggle with the directions as he turned back and caught a glimpse of the " new bird in hand", as corny as that sounded, they were instructed to use this code to communicate the completion of the business. Her eyes, he could not place her eyes. Most of them seemed to dilate or shrink with fear, but hers , remained the constant diameter. She flinched at the intrusion , tried to dominate RD during the scuffle , but something was amiss. Oh Man, she was strong! Looks could be deceptive, she looked petite but she fought hard. She is going to be a pain in the arse, a live wire this one! he sighed deeply. It was not his debut attempt, she was not the first beauty he had encountered ! But all this while he was trying to place those questioning eyes. He had felt a queasy feeling at the back of his head once, the day they had turned from being mere mortals to criminals on the run. He had the same feeling today! He wondered why? In the time to come, he would soon find answers! Some answers, answers he wished he had never found out!!
