Prologue
"There are three kinds of love in the world: Eros, Philos, and Agape," she told him brightly. "Can you explain them to me?"Three stories. Two characters. Three kinds of love.
Prologue
He looked at her, a look of surprise on his face, before understanding finally dawned.
"Of course. Let's start with Eros," he said with a smile, always glad to teach those willing to learn, "Eros is love that means attraction, even romance. You can call it surface level love, but it is love nonetheless. It resides in the initial stages of attraction, it holds the fire, and the burning passion for your lover."
"Okay... I think I understand that. And Philos, the second kind of love," she continued. "What's that about?"
"Philos - it's the love you feel with a friend, someone you can trust and you are comfortable with. Someone you can share your secrets with and be happy with. Once the flame of Eros dies, Philos might be the only thing that can keep the two of you content together for life."
"And the last one - Agape?" she asked curiously. "What's that one about?"
"Ah Agape - the divine love," he told her, with a satisfied smile and a glint in his eye. "This is unconditional love. Loving someone through their ups and downs, no matter what they may or may not have done. Selflessly, continuing to love them... that's Agape. This kind of love is not easy. In fact, even society will frown if you love this way. It is a love beyond any measure of understanding and words won't be able to do justice to the depth of it, but this is the kind of love that will be with you until the end of time."
"So how do I know which kind of love is mine?" she pressed on.
"Let me take you on a journey," he explained to her. "We will transcend through the planes of love together. Then you will only know whether your love is Eros, the physical kind, Philos, the mental kind, or Agape, the spiritual kind. Remember, it's easy to say that you have the capacity to love divinely, but very hard to act upon. You will see what I mean."
