I am not that fluent in Hindi. But I will try with the experience I have watching Hindi films and serials
If someone says something good; then we give them something sweet. That is ghee, shakkar, gulab jamun n laddoos, all are sweet things. So if something good happens we give sweet. It is something like that. I am not that sure

I think Hindi is an easy language to study. I studied Hindi only from 5th class to the 10th and for +1 and +2 I didn't opt for Hindi as the second language and so for my degree. The funniest thing is I never liked Hindi when I was studying it; but after that I am mad about Hindi. My mom always scold me and says that I never study Hindi; but still watch Hindi programmes on TV.

I actually used the phrase as an idiom. It is said in reply usually and it means that whatever you said, I hope it comes true. Lakshmi was saying that we see Anush again so I said this idiom in reply. 😊
And Lakshmi u r right, may be this idiom has all the sweets' names as they are auspicious or something.

By the way Lakshmi don't u live in India, then wat is ur first language if not Hindi ?

I do live in India. But as Mythily said my first language is Malayalam. We have to study Hindi only from 5th-10th class. After that it is optional.
