Part 2
Sorry for the delay. Working 😳
"Who are Vidya and Meera?"
Gopi stared at Ahem. "How can he deny his daughters?" She thought to herself. Ahem approached her.
"Are you alright?" He touched her forehead. "You don't feel hot." Gopi looked at him in desperation.
"But Ahemji? How can you forget ..." She trailed off and scrutinised him. He looked different. The glasses were gone and he didn't look as paunchy anymore. Everyone looked oddly different but the concern on their faces was the same as ever. Looking beyond the family she scanned a house which was strangely familiar but again not. Trying to understand Gopi swayed and then fainted.
Ahem grabbed Gopi as she fell forward. Scooping her up he walked over to the seating area.
"Ahem beta not there. Put her in my bed." Ahem walked over to Baa's room and lay Gopi on the bed. He took his phone and dialled the doctor. Kokila and Hetal fussed in.
"What is wrong with Gopi vahu? Ahem have you called the doctor?" Ahem waved the phone at her, indicating that he was speaking to the doctor. After speaking to the doctor he dialled Jigar's number and explained what had happened and asked him to oversee the boardroom meeting.
The doctor checked Gopi over meticulously. By now she was conscious and answered all his questions. He concluded that there was nothing wrong with her.
"Mr Modi your wife is fine. She is just a little tired and run down. Nothing that some rest, good food won't fix and some sedation."
"Are you sure doctor? She has behaved very oddly this morning and keeps speaking about a Vidya and Meera." He shrugged his shoulders. The doctor looked at her.
"Has she suffered any trauma recently?" Ahem snorted.
"Her whole life seems to be a traumatic experience." As the sedative took hold Gopi began mumbling.
"We have to bring Meera and Vidya here. I fear Gaura will do something bad to my dau ..." She was asleep in no time.
Kokila and Hetal fussed.
"Ahem you go to work. We are here to keep an eye on Gopi vahu."
"If you are sure?" They nodded. "Call me if you are worried." He walked away, thinking of Gopi's mumblings. "Meera and Vidya couldn't be friends of hers as she didn't keep any.. He looked back at her sleeping form and shook his head.
He was pleased to see Gopi sitting up in bed when he got back. At some point during the day she must have transferred back to their room. Upon seeing him her demeanour changed and she began to implore him.
"Ahemji,". She wept, "we have left things so late. We have to collect Vidya and Meera from their sasural. I fear for their safety." Ahem sat down exasperated.
"Gopi, why are you concerned with these two people. If they are in danger we will call the police." Gopi shook her head, the trusty tears ready to fall.
"Ahemji you don't understand. Our daughters are in danger. We have to save them." She wept. Seeing her distress over nothing, he cupped her face in his hands and wiped away her tears, tenderly.
"Gopi. We don't have any daughters. We haven't even talked about starting a family. Why do you keep going on about these two?" Gopi looked at him in shock. She covered his hand with hers.
"Ahemji we have two daughters. They married into the same house. Vidya is pregnant and Gaura has promised her baby as part of a blood feud. And Meera, she says she killed Dharam and now she has to have her head shaved and live like a widow." She dissolved into floods of tears.
Ahem took a deep breathe. Gopi was becoming hysterical. In two steps he was sat on the bed with her. Taking her by her shoulders, he shook her and spoke firmly.
"Gopi, I don't know what madness has taken over you. Get a grip. We aren't even parents yet and you're making us grandparents." Gopi calmed down. Her eyes scanned the room, taking into account once familiar surroundings.
Kokila knocked on the door and barged in.
"How is Gopi vahu?" Ahem turned to her.
"She's fine mom. Just a little disorientated." She noticed the weariness in his voice.
"I'll stay with Gopi vahu. You go down and have some food."
"No mom it's alright. I'll stay with Gopi, get her to freshen up. We'll both come down in a while." Kokila nodded.
"Fine. I'll see you downstairs."
Once she had left, he walked to the wardrobe and pulled out a towel and a fresh sari.
"Why don't you go and freshen up. We'll talk when you come out." Gopi nodded and took the garments. "I'll be waiting. Don't be too long."
As Gopi washed she picked up on little things around her. The same bathroom with everything in its place. She also noticed that her body had no tell tale signs of ever being pregnant. She got out of the shower and dressed.
"Had it all been a dream?" She asked herself.
Emerging refreshed from the bathroom she saw that Ahem was still sat on the bed. He patted the space next to him.
"I think you need to tell me about our prospective family, Miss Clairvoyent." He chuckled. Gopi sat with him and started first about Meera and Vidya. He looked at her with bemused but twinkling eyes.
Kokila's voice carried up the staircase. The anger in her voice, evident.
"Rashi! Where are you? Come here at once?" Gopi stared at Ahem.
"Rashi?" He chuckled at her confusion.
"Yes, Rashi. Your cousin?"
