I understand the point you are trying to make. But yes, I think the reason they have shown it like this is to coincide with Mahashivratri celebration. Rashmi Sharma's other show is also following this theme at present.

Another reason that I think they are showing this (and forgive me if I say something wrong as I am not a practicing Hindu and my limited knowledge only comes from TV) is because Shivaji is the Destroyer and Gopi is to be shown destroying the evil from their lives. This is why I think they are being shown offering pooja to Shivaji. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who you show devotion to. I think according to the situation you are in, you end up turning to that God for guidance, as they might represent the type of guidance that you are looking for in that time. Don't know if I'm making any sense. But it's like when you conduct a Ganesha pooja before a wedding because he is considered as the remover of obstacles. This is my personal understanding and again I am sorry if I offended anyone.

Though yes, I do love Gopi's strong bond and devotion to her Kanhaji. This is the relationship which I think has defined who Gopi is from the beginning of the show.
