It is certainly an interesting twist tamzin. Perhaps the girls are sisters who were orphaned. Gopi got took in by Jeetu's sister and husband. When they died she got taken in by the Jeetu and Urmilla. Would explain why Urmi hates her so. Cos she isn't actually Jeetu's niece.
And Anita could have been taken in by Umang's parents. Which explains his on again off again love for his "sister."
