Part 3
Gopi was combing her hair in front of dressing table. She was feeling very guilty as she had hurt her ahemji. Although it was unintentional on her part but she was involved in it and as usual she was blaming herself for the incident.
"It must be hurting him but he doesn't want to show me."
Suddenly she heard kokila's voice who was calling her and from her voice she looked pretty angry. She left the room quickly and looked back at ahem before getting out of his sight. Ahem passed him a slight smile assuring him that he was alright, but gopi knew he was not. She had learned every bit of his behaviour in the past one year and she could easily tell by reading his face that he didn't want to trouble her.
"He has been nice to me and took so much care of me after my accident. He made maji angry whom he loved more than anyone else only because of me. And what have I paid him back?" her face turned into sad expression. Although she wanted to help him by taking care of his injury and correcting her mistake but somehow the past incident was troubling her mind.
"No I can't do it and give him another chance to put doubts in his mind. Last time also these doubts created that huge tension between us but not this time. I am very clear about my limits are and I won't cross them at any cost" she turned back and left with a determined look on her face.
He sat on the couch with his eyes fixed on the door. He was sure that she would come to see him again. Each passing minute increased his anxiety and strengthened the doubt that she won't come back. With hope in his eyes he started roaming in the room impatiently for her to come back but there was no sign of her even after half an hour. He couldn't handle this cold behaviour from gopi. It felt like his heart was pierced by thousand needles and pain was exceedingly unbearable for him.
He remembered the day when his hand got hurt badly in the fight with umang and again he got hurt in a fight with cable operator during kinjal's ad incident. She was feeling more pain than him. For every drop of his blood she had shed hundreds of tears. Although he didn't care for her that time but today he was feeling how heartless he had been with her for all this time. "She had suffered this for than one year without saying a word and would say nothing in the future also. I am getting same things back that I gave her."
He took his towel and went inside the washroom to clean his wound. He removed the torn kurta and examined the wound closely in the mirror. Her nails had ripped his skin quite badly and abruptly at some places. He took the towel, made it wet and tried to clean the blood off his wound. It was a painful process. The water was seeping into his opened up skin and causing a stinging sensation but he kept the pain to himself and cleaned all the blood. He wiped the water off the wound with the dry side of the towel and pushed it on the wound which gave him a bit of relief from the pain but no longer than few seconds it pained even harder. His face expressions were revealing the pain and gopi observed all of them in the mirror. Ahem opened the tap and splashed his face with cold water when suddenly he saw her in the mirror watching his every move. He immediately turned back and asked, "You? When did you come? Wo I didn' see you."
"Ahemji you said you were alright but it doesn't look so" she looked pretty disappointed.
"Wo... I didn't want to worry you. And afterall you don't care so..." he said in a low tone and turned his back.
She felt very dejected but controlled her emotions.
She came near him and took his hand in hers and pulled him out of the washroom to the bed.
"sit here" she said while going to other side of the bed.
"What are you doing?" he asked her a bit confused.
She brought the first aid box from the table, placed it on the bed and looked at his neck and chest to check how deep were the cuts.
Then she placed both her hands on his shoulders and pushed him down making him sit. He sat down and looked a bit confused. He asked again "what are you doing?"
She kept silent and took the first aid box and sat next to her. She took the cotton and dipped it in an antiseptic. As she placed the cotton on the wound he shouted in pain "ahhh..." and moved his shoulder away. Gopi felt bad but she moved closer to him and held his bicep to stop him from moving it. Ahem had always been a dominating partner in their relation but today he was loving the way his wife had shown authority over him. He never liked anyone dominating him like this but today it was a different feeling as it was showing her love for him. He was loving every bit of attention he was getting from her. She cleaned the wound carefully with antiseptic. She was all focused in her work and checking the cuts while ahem's eyes had glued on her face and the feeling of slight pain had diappeared. He was enjoying this attention he was getting from her. Gopi had nothing else in mind than to dress up his wounds. She was fully concentrated in her work when suddenly she noticed a huge smile on ahem's face who was already knocked over by her beauty. Both looked into each other's eyes and her hand stopped by itself.
Ahem moved his face closer to her. They could feel the warmth of each other's breath. The closing distance made her uncomfortable and before he reached dangerously close to her, she broke the eyelock and turned away.
"Ahemji….."
Her words brought him into senses and realized what was gonna happen.
She took an antiseptic cream out from the box and applied it on the wounds.
"One minute Let me take a bath first. Its gonna be no use after the bath as everything will be washed."
He quickly went in the bathroom with wonderful thoughts in his mind.
Gopi waited for him to complete. Ahem called her after a bit "Gopi I left the towel in the room. Can you bring it in." Another plan in which he had trapped poor gopi successfully.
She took his towel and knocked on the bathroom.
"Gopi I have soap all over my face and body, I can't see so come in and place it on the hook. The door is open."
"Ji but how can I come in. I will wait for you to finish."
Ahem couldn't see his plan failing, so he tried again "gopi it may take me long time due to these cuts which are troubling me. Do it quickly and go to your work"
"No problem ahemji, I will wait", she thought how shameless of ahemji to call me in.
Suddenly kokila's voice came as a saviour for ahem's plan "Gopi vahu are you still sleeping. Its time to do the work. Come here quickly"
Gopi was left with no choice but to enter in and place the towel herself. She entered the bathroom and saw him in his boxers. The sight of ahem stunned her beyond her imagination but she tried hard not to look at him although she couldn't take her eyes of him.
"Ji here is your towel. Maji is calling me so I have to go"
Ahem saw her from the corner of his eye with an evil smile but pretended like he never saw her due to the face being covered with soap. From inside he was celebrating the success of yet another plan and was happy also showing off himself to gopi. But he was not finished yet. He dropped the soap towards gopi's feet.
"Gopi wo…soap just slipped from my hand. I can't see where it is. Can you pass it to me???"
Gopi's eyes were filled with embarrassment. She took the soap and gave it to him. Ahem didn't let the opportunity go and brushed his hands against her entire forearm and pretended that he couldn't see her hand.
She took his hand and placed the soap on it.
"thanks gopi", he said and took the soap.
Gopi just rushed out as fast as she could to avoid any more embarrassing situation while ahem was smirking again.
"I guess that since now you have also seen all of me, this should remove your uneasiness around me from now on." He thought seriously.
Gopi went downstairs but couldn't find kokila. She asked mithi about her who told her that she went to her room. "Gopi bhabi, she said that you should complete the pooja work at mandir."
Gopi quickly finished the mandir work and went in the room to see if ahem was alright as she had to dress his wounds. He had come out and was trying to put an ointment over the cuts.
"What are you doing?? Let me do it." . she ran to him and snatched the ointment from his hand. She again cleaned the area and put the ointment over the cuts. She slowly messaged until the it was absorbed in the skin. Ahem's eyes were still on her and his smile had widened even more.
Then she gave him a painkiller tablet to eat.
"Now please wear something. I will give you a new kurta to put on" She said looking away shyly as all the time she hadn't noticed that he had nothing on his torso.
Meanwhile ahem came out of his dreamworld and nodded his head in a way which neither looked yes nor looked no. Gopi was confused but she didn't ask him a second time. She went to the cupboard and gave him a cream coloured kurta to wear.
Ahem was thinking that she had proved him wrong again. She does care for me but this time he was happy to be on the wrong side. He could sense a ray of hope that everything can be fine again.
Suddenly an idea strikes his mind. "Although its not paining much now but if I make a big fuss about this injury then I can get her attention…..and."
He took the kurta and pretended to wear it but showing her that he is getting a lot of pain and can't wear it without someone's help. Gopi was watching his struggle to wear that kurta.
"can you help me a bit gopi?"
She came near him, took the kurta and went towards the cupboard. She placed the kurta in and took out a blue shirt.
"You can wear it more easily" she said and handed the shirt to him.
Ahem was surprised as she perfectly countered his plan, "She is intelligent but not more than me." He put the shirt on and quickly ripped off a button.
"Gopi see this what kind of shirt you gave me. This button ripped off while wearing the shirt. Can you sew it back??"
" Ji I will give you another shirt. Change it and I will sew it later"
"Wo… wo actually you know I already put this shirt on with much difficulty………" he tried to read her expression…. "but if you say I can take the pain again…" making sad faces.
He knew that everything could fail but she cannot see him in pain. He was emotionally blackmailing her.
"No...no need. I will sew it now"
She took a needle and thread and started to sew the button. She was standing a bit away from him which he didn't like. He slowly started inching his feet towards her. He was moving so briskly that she never came to know about it and finally he was almost touching her. He was enjoying his wife so close to him with all her attention on him and thought he was too intelligent to handle for poor gopi.
"ouch, gopi you pricked me hard with that needle"
Gopi was confused as she was very careful and sure that she didn't prick him
"But I am sure I didn't ahemji"
"So you are accusing me of lying", he tried to intimidate her.
She looked down in defeat and carefully sewed the button back and left the room.
Just before she said, "I will bring a glass of milk with turmeric(haldi) for you. It will help your wound heal faster."
"I suggest you don't go to office today and take rest." gopi had kind of ordered him in a stern voice.
"Hmmm… but mom is not going to agree to leave the work."
"Ji I will try to persuade her."
"But don't tell her about this…"
"ji I won't"
Ahem was already in lala land due to the care his wife was showering over him due to a small injury.
She went into the kitchen where kokila and hetal had already prepared the breakfast. "Gopi vahu how did you come so late to the kitchen today. Normally you finish all the works before we even come here and today you are so late."
"java dena kokila, she must be tired of so much work so she may have woken up late." Hetal in her as usual tone calmed down kokila.
"ji mota bhabi but I don't expect this kind of irresponsibility from my gopi vahu. Have you finished the mandir work or it is still pending."
"Maji I did it" Gopi somehow survived koki's glare.
"Gopi dikra you don't worry. We have finished most of the works so you prepare the dining table with rashi and I will send mithi to call everyone for the breakfast" hetal tried to console gopi.
"Gopi vahu ahem has woken up or he is also sleeping late like you. Tell him to get ready otherwise he will get late for office."
"Maji I think he will not go to office today."
"Not go to office but why? Today is not any holiday and jigar and mota bhai are going, then what happened to him. Is his health alright?"
"Ji maji wo….wo… He looks a bit tired"
"No gopi vahu. I am seeing that you and ahem have been learning too many bad habits. First insult you mother, don't answer when she asks something, then sleep till late and then irresponsible towards work. I don't want to hear anything gopi vahu. Tell him to get ready quickly as the breakfast is also ready"
Gopi left the kitchen with a slight nod of her head as she had accepted her defeat and went to her room. Ahem was combing his hair and had already got ready for office.
"Wo …maji didn't agree", she said sadly.
"I knew it from the beginning that's why I got ready", ahem said in a teasing tone.
"ji you please come down and do the breakfast", she said and turned to go back.
Another plan strikes his mind.
"okay, gopi one minute. Can you help me with this tie. I can't do it properly because of this shoulder."
Gopi became doubtful on this "But you don't wear ties these days then suddenly today?? I think you can do it by yourself. Its not a big deal." Gopi said in a bit of angry tone.
Ahem just stood there watching her and she went downstairs.
"Oh my goodness, she straightaway refused me?? How can she?? I think she is doubtful that I am overacting on this injury. Now what to do, think ahem think. You can't let this opportunity go like this."
Gopi was confused that its not such a big injury at all and the pain should be gone by now, then why is he making a big fuss over it. He had more severe injuries in the past but never asked for help with these small things. She was in her thoughts and suddenly she collided with rashi.
"ouch, gopi where are you lost?? Walk with your eyes in front. See you ruined my saree and jigar ji's tea also." She left giving her an annoyed look and cursing herself " already I have so many problems and now another one. Every time it happens to me only. Now jigar ji will blast me and then that kagdi also would be waiting to eat me alive. Mummy……….."
Gopi was thinking that today she is creating problems for everyone. She prayed to kanaji for ahem and rashi and went into the kitchen.
