Hello Friends! I am finally back with an update.

I want to apologize for making you guys wait for so long, but as I said I had unexpected housework that came up and was busy with that at first. The other thing was I was completely frustrated with the show half way thru writing the update, and I just couldn't get it right, I almost quit the whole thing, but then just decided to leave it a lone for couple of days instead of forcing it. I finally have it finished.
Ok, enough about me, you all can scold me in your comments.

Here it is, enjoy!

Part 20

Next morning Ahem woke up as soon as Gopi moved out of his arms. He lifted his head off the pillow to glance toward Gopi. He turned on his side to study his beautiful wife.

He started with her face, which looked even more innocent in sleep. He couldn't resist moving a curl from her face.

His eyes moved to her soft, pink lips. He caresses her soft cheek with the back of his hand, when she didn't stir he continued down her throat. He paused when he encountered the first button of his shirt.

She had put on his shirt in the middle of the night when he refused to let her put on a nightgown. She had begged him to at least let her wear something, seeing how uncomfortable she had felt he had got up to pick up his shirt from the floor for her to wear.

He glanced at her face, when he saw that she was still sleeping, he unbuttoned the shirt and moved it out of the way. He continued to caress her gently, but touching her was not enough. He wanted to taste her warm, pink flesh. He bent and softly kissed the pulse point at her neck. He continued down her throat giving her several open mouth kisses as he continued moving down her body.

When he reached her flat stomach and the waist chain he gave her several kisses from left to right along the chain.

When he felt her hand in his hair, he knew she was a wake; he started kissing his way back up her body, pausing at each breast and giving lingering kisses before lifting his head to meet her eyes. She looked away shyly, darting her eyes from here and there before coming back to his. She tried to pull the shirt back to cover herself but he stopped her. Moved over her, bringing his bare chest in contact with hers, making her inhale sharply and him groan deeply. He wanted her to feel that last night was not a dream however a reality and he was satisfied with her response she gave.

Just as he was about to kiss her senseless the alarm clock went off loudly, making him groan again and her laugh softly. He buried his face in her neck, holding her tightly not wanting to let her go.

He felt her hands on his shoulders. "Ahem, move, I have to get up."

Ahem sighed and lifted his head to look down at her. He studied her face intently. "How do you feel?"

She flushed pink at his question, knowing exactly what he wanted to know. At first she was too embarrassed to look at him, but considering what took place the night before, there was no room for embarrassment between them. She put her hand on his cheek and smiled. "I am fine, but if I don't start getting ready soon, someone will be coming to look for me, so please move, and let me go."

Ahem turned his head and lightly kissed her palm before moving off her, so she could get up. He watched as she sat up on the side of the bed and buttoned the shirt up again. When he saw her walk to the wardrobe without any difficulty, he closed his eyes to go back to sleep, giving her time to dress privately.

An hour later Gopi was heating up the milk when Koki walked in the kitchen. "Jai Shree Krishna Maji!" Gopi smiled at her mother in law.

"Jai Shree Krishna Gopi Vahu! How was the party last night?"

"Party was nice Maji." Gopi turned off the stove and turned towards her maji. "Maji there is something we wanted to talk to you about.

Koki smiled at her vahu. "Gopi vahu, we already know about Jigar and Sonal, and we have already talked about keeping both engagement on the same day." Koki smiled wider at her vahu's surprised look. "Jigar and Kinjle told us yesterday and we already spoke to Sonal's parents. We were all hoping for this alliance anyway." Koki's smile faded at the thought of what she needed to discuss with her vahu.

"Gopi vahu, come here, there is something we need to talk about also." Gopi followed Koki to the kitchen table and they both sat down. Koki's tone had been serious so she waited for her to start the conversation. "Gopi vahu, we stopped by at your father's house to invite him to the engagement personally. I know I should have talked to you about this beforehand, but I knew you would understand that we cannot cut your father off from our family events, after all he is your father, and we don't want to give people more things to gossip about."

Gopi immediately covered Koki's hand to stop her. "Maji, you don't have to explain anything to me, in fact I was already prepared for this. Did he say weather he will attend or not?"

Koki squeezed her hand. "He agreed to attend the engagement. He seemed to have calmed down a bit, and he looked pleased to be invited."

Gopi did not know what to make of that, she had lost hope of her father ever changing, she hoped all was well with him, and made a mental note to talk to her brother about it later.

Gopi placed Ahem's tea on the table and started straightening up the room. When she started making the bed she couldn't help but flash back to the night before and smile to herself. She felt his arms go around her waist and felt him nuzzled her neck. 'I saw that.' Gopi turned in his arms and smiled up at him. 'What?' He brought her closer to him. "Your smile, what were you smiling about?"

Gopi placed her arms around his neck, lifted up on her toes, so she could be closer to him and said, 'you' before placing her lips on his. Ahem immediately tightened his arms around her and lifted her up in his arms. He deepened the kiss, getting lost in her touch and taste.

After a moment the kiss gentled, and slowed down to lingering touches of lips, showing their reluctance to end the kiss. Ahem placed Gopi back down but didn't let her go. She stepped back and placed her hands on his chest. "You need to get ready, and I should go back down and finish breakfast." Ahem let her go reluctantly. He drank his tea while she put his clothes out for the day.

Breakfast was a lively affair, with everyone teasing Jigar and discussing the engagement event, which just expanded. "Jigar, are you sure you want to get married? Just the other day you claimed you were not ready." Ahem teased him.

Jigar was not one to easily get embarrassed, so he also teased his brother in return. "Well bhai, seeing how happy you are with bhabhi, especially after last night, I figure I should give it a shot. I figured it couldn't be that bad, if my workaholic bhai is not even spared by the institution of marriage and love of a good woman." At the mention of night before, Gopi's head shot up, and she flushed.

Seeing his wife flush, Ahem quickly changed the subject to engagement preparations and what were the plans since now there were going to be two engagements taking place. The change of subject did not go unnoticed by the family members.

For the next few days, the whole Modi clan became busy with making changes for the event. In addition to caterers, flowers and menu, everyone had to be called personally to be invited and to inform about the change in plans.

There was more shopping to do, for Sonal, and also Jigar.

On the day of the engagement Gopi was dressed in green and purple shade lehnga. The lehnga was simply designed using gold sequins, zari, resham, beads, stones and fancy thread work. It was simple yet elegant. Everyone complimented on how beautiful she looked, and Ahem felt proud at all the compliments that were given to his wife. He was also looking handsome in his gold sherwani that Gopi had picked out for him on one of her shopping trips.

They had posed for a photo at the photographers insistent, Koki seeing them both posing for the picture had asked the photographer for extra copies of the photo.

A short while later both Elesh's and Sonal's family arrived with their respective close relatives. Gopi noticed her father, mami and Rashi arrive right after them. After greeting both families she became busy making sure all the guests were served refreshments. While doing this she noticed two things simultaneously, one arrival of Nick Malhotra with an older gentleman and other one of Sonal's relative observing her carefully.

The lady had similar features as Sonal's mother so Gopi assumed it must be Sonal's masi. After making sure everything was running smoothly Gopi joined the group of ladies. Koki turned and gave Gopi a smile; she then turned and introduced her to Sonal's relatives. The lady who was Sonal's masi gave her a calculating look and turned to Koki. "Kokilaben, so this is your vahu. I must say you are a very brave lady to marry your son to someone who could only bring bad luck to him and your family." There was a pin drop silence among the group.

Gopi notice her mami and Rashi standing few feet away, smirking at her. Few feet from them stood her father, brother and Ahem. Judging by the expressions on her brother and Ahem's face they also heard what Sonal's masi just said. Gopi did not look at her father.

Gopi felt her maji stiffen and Hetal kaki put her hand on her back.

Sonal's masi turned to her sister. "Are you sure you want an alliance with Modi family? From what I heard their company is also having many problems, and if their elder vahu is manhoos, then it won't be long before they are out on streets. We should think about our daughter's future." Gopi was frozen in place, she wished the floor would open up and swallow her whole. Because of her, her family has to suffer this humiliation. She saw Ahem take step towards her, but she quickly shook her head discreetly to stop him.

The anger on her maji's face was visible as she glanced at mami and Rashi. "Parulben, I don't know what or who gave you this idea, but we do not consider our vahu manhoos. Furthermore we believe in destiny not luck. If it is destined to happen then it will, nothing or no one can stop this. It is all in Kanaji's hand." Koki raised her chin and pulled her pallu over her left shoulder proudly.

What shocked Gopi more was the voice she heard next. "I think Kokilaben is right, you shouldn't listen to people's gossips, there is nothing to gain from it." It was her father, and she could not believe that he actually involved himself in her family matters. Gopi glanced at her brother, who just shook his head, as if to say not now.

There was an uncomfortable silence among the group of people. Finally Gopi turned to Koki. "Maji, I will go get Kinjleben, she should be ready by now." Koki gave her slight nod, Gopi turned and hurried towards the stairs.

Ahem watched Gopi rush away from the group of ladies. He wanted to go after her, but refrained, she will only breakdown if he tried to comfort her now, he decided to wait. He was confident that she would pull herself together for their family.

Ten minutes later Gopi and Kinjle descended the stairs. Kinjle looked beautiful in tea green lehnga embroidered with gold resham work in floral pattern accentuated with almond shaped synthetic crystals and maroon, tea green and tangerine velvet trim along the embroidered hemline.

They were joined by Sonal at the bottom of the staircase. Sonal was in Peacock blue and royal blue Silk lengha set with gold and silver thread work, Mukesh work and peacock blue patchwork in intricate design adorn the lengha.

Gopi escorted both girls to the middle of the room where the ceremony was to take place, then stepped back so Elesh and Jigar could take their places beside the girls. Panditji came and started the ceremony. When he asked for the rings, Koki signaled Gopi to bring the thali with the rings. She hesitated a bit, glancing towards Sonal's family, before she could say anything Ahem was standing next to her holding the thali. He took her hand and placed the thali in her hand, giving her hand an encouraging squeeze before letting go, when she glanced at the family they also gave her an encouraging smile. She took the thali forward and breathed a sigh a relief when no one protested.

Once the ceremony was over the guests were free to mingle. Gopi checked to make sure the caterers were not running short on anything. She was just coming out of the kitchen when someone blocked her. She looked up to see Nick Malhotra standing in front of her with a smirk on his face. His eyes had the same look in them that he wore back in college when she joined the college; the same look which had made her avoid him. If she had followed her instincts and not fallen for his act, she would have never fallen into his trap. Gopi gave him an impassive look. "Is there something I can help you with Mr. Malhotra?"

Nick raised an eyebrow, and leered at her. "Mr. Malhotra? Come on now Gopi, I thought we were friends, you used to call me Nick."

Gopi's expression did not change. "We were not friends, you never wanted to be my friend, so drop the act and move out of my way."

Nick did not move. "Didn't I tell you, you know me well? You are right, I didn't want to be your friend, I wanted to be more than that, but you never could see past Ahem, and that has not changed." He took another step towards Gopi. "Tell me something, how is he so different from rest of us normal human beings? What makes him the high and mighty Mr. Ahem Modi, the golden boy?"

Gopi did not step back, she did not want to show him that he was affecting her in anyway. "It wouldn't matter even if you were exactly like him, you still wouldn't take his place. You could never be the man that he is, so why don't you just give it up and move on."

Nick lifted his hand as if to touch her, but before he could even bring his hand close to her, it was 'grabbed by even a stronger hand. "Nick, I believe my wife asked you to move out of her way, and don't ever make the mistake of touching what is mine, I have told you this before." Ahem dropped Nick's arm to his side.

Nick put up his hands, stepped back and gave a false laugh. "Relax man, we were just talking. I see your possessiveness has not changed." Ahem scowled at him. "Now Ahem don't pretend to not understand what I am trying to say. This is how you were with all your girlfriends, including Anita, in college. You always did warn us off, but I can understand you are more possessive of Gopi, after all she is your wife."

Ahem took a threatening step towards Nick. "Shut up Nick, you don't know what your are talking about. Anita was never my girlfriend and you and I both know I never had any girlfriends in college." Nick just smirked at him.

Ahem felt Gopi's small hand on his arm. "Ahem relax, he is just trying to create misunderstandings between us, and hoping you will create a scene, just forget it, he is not worth it."

Nick's smile faded at Gopi's confident words. Ahem took Gopi's hand, gave Nick one last warning. "Stay away from her, or else…." Before walking away with Gopi.

Ahem and Gopi did not glance back, had they turned around to look they would have seen the vindictive look on Nick's face.

Pretty soon the guests started leaving. Gopi was saying goodbye to her kakima and Eleshbhai's family, when her brother came up to her. "Are you okay?" Gopi gave Raj a reassuring smile. "I am fine." She glanced past him to see the father talking to papaji and kakaji, she turned back to her brother. "Is he okay?"

Raj did not glance back to see whom Gopi was talking about. He knew his sister had been shocked when their father spoke up. He took her aside to explain. "He called me few days ago to come to the house. Apparently he thought back to that day when he said you were not his daughter and regretted it, he realized by saying this he was doubting mom, and he loved her too much to disrespect her like that." Gopi stayed silent.

"Anyway, papa started observing things around the house, and realized that his life and home were completely taken over by Mami. He didn't say anything to her, he just watched, and that's when he found out that Dhaval has been creating problems in Modi construction, he became even more alert, he kept watching them, never letting them know that he was on to them. Finally when he realized that Dhaval had records of all that he had done and was keeping them with mami, he knew what he needed to do. He had brought all the files to me, so I could give it Ahem, and that's what we were talking about earlier." Gopi did not know what to make of all this; all she knew was that at least her brother and father were mending their relationship again.

Gopi nodded her head once. "Are you staying with him? What if they find out and do something to him?"

Raj hugged his sister, he knew she has given up all hope of their father ever accepting her, yet she never failed to be a dutiful daughter and worry for him. "He will be fine, he is not staying at home, he is coming with me for now. He has already told mami and Rashi to move out of the house, he will give them few days."

"What about Dhaval?"

"Ahem will be taking care of him, first thing tomorrow, don't worry for now, just relax. You have had an eventful evening, and don't let other people's words get to you. Your family loves you and that's all that matters." Gopi once again could only nod at her brother, but deep down, she was scared. She hoped that Sonal's masi did not create any problems. She had not looked too happy when Sonal's parents' disagree with her.

It was very late when Gopi came into the room. Ahem was just going through the files one last time. He put them away and watched her. He could tell that she was worried about something. He knew the words spoken by Sonal's masi had a deep impact on her. He had wanted to tell the lady off the moment the words were out her mouth, but knew he couldn't create a scene, and they were going to be Jigar's in laws soon, so he couldn't say anything.

Then the little scene with Nick, he knew she had been afraid, but she stood her ground. Once they walked away from Nick, he had taken her to a quiet corner, away from everyone's prying eye. She had immediately collapsed into his arms. He had held her in his arms until she felt normal enough to face the crowd again. After that he had kept a close eye on her, to be sure nothing else happened to break her control.

Ahem stood up and went to his favorite spot by the window, he waited for Gopi to come out of the bathroom. Few minutes later he heard her come out and turned towards her. Once she put everything away, he went to her, and took her in his arms without saying anything to her.

"Did I tell you that you that you looked very beautiful tonight?" When she nodded her head yes, he smiled. "Well let me tell you again, you looked very beautiful tonight." Gopi smiled at him half-heartedly. Ahem sighed, took her hand and walked her to the bed. He sat with his back against the headboard, pulled Gopi next to him and wrapped her in his arms.

"Gopi don't let what was said tonight get to you. That was just your mami's way of making you look bad, because you blocked her from getting Rashi married with Jigar." He rubbed her back gently.

Gopi didn't answer for a moment, finally sighed and looked up at him. "I know that it was their way of hurting me, but Sonal's family don't know this, what if they break the engagement because of this? I don't want to be the cause of Devarji's and Sonal's break up."

Ahem cupped her face. "Don't borrow trouble, nothing like this is going to happen, believe me. Sonal is a sensible girl and her father and kakaji have been friends for long time, they are not going to believe in this nonsense."

"I hope you are right."

"I am. Now give me my reward for being patient all night." When she gave him a confused look, he sighed. "For being good and not dragging you back to this room to kiss you senseless, when I saw you in my favorite color tonight." Gopi smiled, lifted her face to his and gave him a light kiss on the lips. He immediately deepened the kiss. It was a long while before they both came up for air.

wonderful update Shilpa. Absolutely loved it. The more I read GoHem part, the more I want to read. The relationship between GoHem is so warm that any problems may arise, it won't affect them. Now that Nick is extremely jealous of Ahem, will he come up with a new plot to destroy them. Is that what Sonal's massy was indicating about the company problems. I do hope there won't be any problems for Jigar-Sonal marriage. Good to see the changed father of Gopi. Overall, the wait was very much worth. Well done!
