Nafisa, Can I just say something about your experience to. I have friends who are accountants and they too think that it is a fallacy too by working in one of the big 4 you are gaining a broad range experience. However the accountancy world views this highly it seems.
They do, what I have done after the interview, is call up two of my agencies and told them about what happened at the interview, and asked them to place me on a short term basis into an accountancy practice (not the Big 4) just a regular accountancy practice that does account compilation for various clients in different sectors, one was positive that they can find me something, however I would take a pay cut the duration I'm working there, which I don't mind doing, it will be for 3 months tops then I will quit and go back to commercial companies, but I think it will help boost my CV. My other agency, doesn't seem to want to get me into a practice as it's a cut on them too, Hays they are thinking if they get me into a higher paying job they cut is bigger (10% of salary), I don't mind whichever it is, as long as they actually do get me into a commercial company that is paying well at this stage in my career or the practice job to get more experience.
