battling sterotypes-Please read does Zee

Does Zee TV really do a good job on tackling sterotypes? They say Saat Phere is about discrimination about people with darker complexions, and the new serial called Ghar Ki Lakshmi Betiyann, is about discrimiantion of having daughers when people really wants sons to be born. I don't think Hindi serials do a good job at all of addressing sterotypes. It's all about the ratings and money. Saloni in saat phere is continoulsy blamed and attacked, until everyone realizes their mistakes and start liking her again, but then the next week the same attacking and blaming happens again. The new serial will probably show the daughters getting daunted and put down and cursed at, and they put up with it, and of course they never get mad because they love and respect their parents while the son gets spoiled. I think these serials are highly unrealistic. All the crap Saloni puts up and she has the patience of a saint. In real life I don't think anybody could put up with it for too long until they lose it! As well, they make a big deal of young couples separating from their families, but in real life it's very common, well in Canada it is. People don't look at the reason behind couples moving out, they just label it good or bad. Just because a couple lives away from their inlaws doen't make them bad people and their love for their parents doesn't get any less. Considering in some aspects India is way more modern than us in the West. I am shocked at what people in India do in front of their parents (smoke, drink, clubbing etc.) while here in Canada or in the US we whould probably get a smack. I am sure those guys and girls in the serials who act like saints probably party way more than their characters do, but those serials don't reflect what's actually happening in Indian society. I guess people still like thinking India is still innocent and their culture is still intact, but I see more and more when I go to India to visit people are trying to be like the west instead of appreciate their unique culture. It's sad. Well I really needed to get that off my chest. I would like to see a disscussion about my opinions, what do you people think?

well said!! I agree with you a hundred percent.

The serials are actually showing much less than what actually happens. In SP at least people like Saloni but stark reality is murkier.

You may visit India and you will know why. Read whats happening in Punjab, Merrut. It will wrench your heart with hatred for the perpetrators.

Women abuse is prevalent in all stratas of society since its more to do with how social ranking of women. Delhi has the highest abortion rate in India. Did you know Nita Ambani during the years after marriage she was not allowed to visit the company office or its employees.

You and me are fortunate to be born in progressive families😳.

As far as serials digressing well they are churning out entertainment and not making a documentary😆 in which case no one wld be watching it.😊

i agree with you but at the same time its not only about money its about the truth.

If you take all the soaps in all the channels into consideration..., i feel they are all the same! same type of characters, same type of villains or vamps...all ultra rich families..heavy dose of melo drama...along with lots of jewellery n makeups n make overs...
all the serials start saying that its a new story, new concept, and all that bakawas...but, they all end up the similar way..they all are high voltage drams..where reality is almost 0%.
havent we had enough of all this? Isnt there any othr topic than this saas bahu stuff?
we indians are not capable of making soaps with some new things...
If these serials want to promote joint familes, then none of the serials show that they are happy in anyway...they always cry n cry...there are always villains, they just want to do bad..no1 knows the reason behind their grudge or anything...
If you take kaveri of saath phere, dont you think her character has become so unrealistic? i can even understand the reason behind her grudge against any1 in the serial..its a stupid character actually...which has gone beyond nuts.
to be frank, i am sick of all these serials..i really miss some light hearted serials, the feel good factor ones...
To be frank, i dont mind watching "friends" or "full house" bewitched" or "i dream of Jeannie"..i dont mind watching them again and again...but not these ones...
even the serials which are made for kids by disney, like "tats so raven" or "Lizzy Mcguire" are much better than the best of family hind dramas on our Channels...
why cant they make more of "Kareena kareena", sarabhai Vs sarabhai", "dekh bhai dekh" kind of serials...or "hip hip hurray" type of serials...dont you think they are much better serials...we dont mind watching their reruns, again n again..
dont know whom to blame, the channels or us, the audience... who can change the situation, its a million dollar question...

yeah, I agree, India, and all the other traditional countries have become so Westernized, far more than the US or Canada, I just visited Bangladesh, and I tell you, its not the same as it was seven years ago... 😕

i agree with u 100%..zee is actually drifting away from those stupid saas-bahu shows to some more reality shows--not reality exactly but issues that are more common and issues that we see in society
