Ali to play SRK's DDLJ character
Ali Merchant, currently seen on Ghar Ek Sapna, will soon be seen playing one of the leads on Saat Phere (Zee TV). And what's more, he's going to be romancing both Saawri and Shweta! Merchant says that his character bears a lot of resemblance to Shah Rukh Khan's in Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge.
"I'll be seen playing Abhay/Arjun, a very charming, sweet boy. He is such a fun-loving guy who is liked by everyone. My character resembles Shah Rukh Khan's in DDLJ and is also similar to Ranbir Kapoor's in Bachna Ae Haseeno," says Ali.
Merchant says he is a big fan of SRK and that he has watched DDLJ 10 times. He adds, "Shah Rukh is a rock star! He is the guy who has taught every youngster about romance!"
More on his track, Merchant says, "My character will not be a cameo. He is one of the leads and is equally important. He will share some amazing chemistry with the two girls and will be shown romancing one of them or even both!"
And the actor says that he is very similar to his Casanova character, adding "It's a very easy going character, much like me in real life. I don't have to work on it and act as this is what I am like!"
Saat Phere's popularity inspired Merchant to take up the role. "Saat Phere is one of the biggest shows on television now and I always wanted to work with Sphere's Origin, this was a good opportunity," he says.
Apart from this, Ali also hopes that his male presence helps increase the show's ratings. "One of the reasons that the ratings are down is because there hasn't been a male lead on the show for quite some time. After my entry, the ratings should increase."
Ali will start shooting for Saat Phere tomorrow and his entry will be telecast this weekend at 9pm on Zee TV.
