When Neena Gupta left for the US earlier this month, she was a Miss. Little did she know then that she would return a Mrs! Yes, the actress tied the knot on July 15 in US, and has just returned to India — Delhi, to be precise — where her husband lives and works. So, who is this mystery man that has overnight become Neena Gupta's better half? "His name is Vivek Mehra, he's a CA working in Delhi," says the new bride, the coyness mixed with joy evident in her voice, as she continues, "It was a surprise. We had all gone to the US to attend another function. Suddenly, one day, he proposed to me, I said 'yes' and in two days we were married. We had a proper marriage there, with a pandit and our families present. He had told his sister who was there to plan and organise things for the wedding beforehand." You'd think a surprise wedding would be the outcome of a 'love-at-first-sight' situation. But Neena surprises us yet again by revealing that she's been seeing Vivek since the past six years! What's more, the two met in a plane on a flight! "He was married when we met, but was having trouble in his marriage. A year later, he separated from his wife. We couldn't get married earlier since he was still married, but now that his divorce has come through, he proposed," says Neena about her husband who has two daughters from his previous marriage. Does the wedding mean Neena will be shifting base to the capital then? "No, I'm going to be in Mumbai for a while since my daughter Masaba is studying here. Besides, my work is here too. So we'll just shuffle between Mumbai and Delhi." And how has Masaba adjusted to her new father? "She's extremely fond of him, he's a complete family man. Of course, she's still getting used to the fact that I'm married now, but then, so am I! It's still not sunk in that I'm married!" laughs Neena, who also tells us that the couple has no time for a honeymoon right now. "He's neck-deep in work, and I've got shows to shoot for. So there's no honeymoon in the near future!" |
