Having read all the comments on this thread, I will be the odd one out here but I seriously DID NOT LIKE the music of this film. ARR in my opinion is not at all good for period films and they should have taken Ismail Darbar or even Anu Malik for this movie.

The song Jashn E Bahaara is the only decent track. The others I have found extremely OVER COOKED. Too many instruments and similar flow to the songs. I doubt the album will do well.

ARR should not do Historicals and I am glad this is his last period film. He getting the Screen award for Best Music is ridiculous ! I mean in Guru the only good song was Barso re megha, a half decent Bin tere kya jina. While Song like Ek Lo Ek muft and Maiyya Maiyya were disapointing. He just won it on his name.

The truly deserving were VS for OSO (for the great variety), HR for Namastey London (Yehi Hota pyar, Chakna, Main Jahan bhi rahoon, Veeraniyan, Rafta Rafta) or Pritam for Metro or Jab We met.

ARR should stick to contemprary music like in RDB. I am critical of him and feel that he is made out to be some kind of great which he is but fading. He has given music like Roja, Bombay, Kadhalan, Dil Se, Rangeela, Lagaan but after that there has been a lot of mediocre stuff from him (apart from RDB). He is not able to touch those dizzy heights which he had done years ago.

Some of the Historicals (not period films) which ARR has done are - Bhagat Singh, Mangal Pandey, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Elizibeth - Golden Age, Guru and now Jodha Akbar.

His music in Lagaan & Kisna was good but those were not Historicals and more periodic hence he could use contemprary music in these films.

He should stop doing HISTORICALS as his music in them is nothing to write home about.

I am afraid I am not too impressed at the moment, but don't know if hearing the songs again will help in having second thoughts.

ARR has not been able to reach the heights that Naushad reached with Mughal-e-Azam. Music is sounding too modern, not like a period film.

It would have been nice if ARR could have incorporated some dhrupad which was common in that period. It was a period of varied musical influences which is not coming across with the music.

Punjini, I agree with you. Too many instruments used. The instruments used are more western or Arabic (african). Indian instruments like Tabla, Sarangi and sitar should have been used instead. Plus focus should have been on singing and music should be less cluttered to enhance the singing. In those days there were singers like Tansen, who used only his voice and use of instruments were much lesser so that the impact of vocals lasted.
