After observing the performances of the kids in this show, one glaring defect which sticks out like a sore thumb is that most of these kids are sort of low in confidence which greatly affects their turnout on the stage. They seem to be too wary of the competition and appear to be not enjoying the experience of singing or music which is the most essential factor for both the singer & the listener.
They are found either trying too much, resulting in lot of mistakes or holding a lot back, leading to listless performance making a damp squib of a promising musical evening. So thought of coming out with a list of tips or suggestions or advice to the tiny tots out there, to buck up and give the audience wholesome entertainment & a pleasant musical weekend every week.
We know that these are just kids & some things might be way over their innocent minds but if we could come up with some simple ideas & things wouldn't it be of a welcome help to such young aspirants?(Let us not worry much about the technical aspects like sur & taal since these are the basic necessities which would be taken care of better by a good music guru)
1. Don't be too self conscious on the stage & try not to impress too much. Being nervous is natural, it will subside as you will get used to it.
2. Don't worry too much about grades or points. Forget about the competition, think yourself as a performer. Treat your competitors as team mates not opponents, and yourself the captain leading from the front.
3. Pay heed to the judges comments and take their criticism in the right spirit.
4. Practice practice practice & more practice, don't let go of your singing teacher until you get a perfect score on your rehearsals.
5. Throw out of mind the fear of committing mistakes, blunders, results or elimination & adverse audience reaction.
6. Keep smiling, even if you had sung the worst on the day, but resolve yourself to bounce back as the best on the next.
7. Try to keep it simple if you are not too sure about a particular song, but you are confident try & improvise.
8. Most importantly enjoy the singing, relish the experience, lose yourself, immerse completely in the mood of the song, you are bound to excel. Music cannot be measured or judged by points or grades, it can only be enjoyed.
