You are so very right. People of NE have great affinity for music, but they seem to detach from the Indian music stream. Their music is more influenced by the west. I am talking about the general youth, my 1st year roommate introduced me to the songs of some great musicians from the west. I have also seen it in others.

It's our government's policy to blame for not making the NE people feel to be a part of India. But I guess times are changing, with internet and cable channels and all kind of communications, they are also finding a place to be a part of this country through these musical shows.

Western influence as far as music is concerned , it is mainly in Meghalaya, Mizo ram and Nagaland where popular music is of western type due to obvious reasons and even classical music means western classical. India's best choir singers have to come from these places.
