Dear all,

I have been thinking about this for few days considering the craziness for voting and the influence of the drama on voting. Since this channels have a revenue sharing agreement with the telephone companies for all kinds of reality shows, they have a "CONFLICT OF INTEREST" to dramatise the event and gain the votes from the viewers.

1. As per one of the interviews of vishal, when Ashaji and Himesh drama happened, everyone was laughing but it was shown as if there is lot of tension. (Dramatising by editing)

2. As per Barnaliji's talk with Poonam, She had requested to not to publicise the report about the girl she adopted (Dramatising by sympathy)

3. Declaration of zones, arranging big gatherings and welcome as if a minister has come when the contestants visit their home (Dramatising the popularity)

4. Royal cub of bengal, Raja Hindusthani, Pakistan ke mahabali (Dramatising by regional influence)

There are so many ways of dramatising that this people have used to influence the votes from public. They dont care who gets the votes, what they care about is the number of votes and they will use any pawn to get more votes. Its clearly result of this "CONFLICT OF INTEREST" created by the revenue sharing agreement with telephone companies.

Since the channel makes the profits out of advertisement revenue, sponsorship revenue, sell of albums etc. I believe that public can file a writ petition for ban on such revenue sharing agreements by reasoning of "CONFLICT OF INTEREST".

A write petition can be filed to rule all such revenue sharing agreements between channels and telephone companies as void. So the base reason of dramatization will be out😊

What are your views regarding this?

Very well said Abhi, agreeing with your points. To me there one more thing need to add in your petition that Verbal abuse toward all those girls in the show by Himesh and he needs to stop acting as a PIMP for his contestant and which he deed in 2005 and 2007. I am sick of his Love triangle BS.

do they need to bring😆.....

well i had projected the result.... the viewership of SRGMP is highest in northeast belt of India and hence many votes come from there and they are biased as to region too if any fair enough regional contestant is involved..... Whereas the viewership of SRGMP in maharashtra is very limited and hence the contestants get out quite quickly.... also maharashtra people dont believe in normal telephone spendings let alone spendings on voting.... so maharashtra people would never come again in top 4-5 after Abhijit sawant😆....

but i wanted to file this writ petition, may be if there is any lawyer they can enlighten whether this agreement between channels and telephone comapnies can be nullified😊

Verbal abuse is a personal case and a petition can not be filed for that... there has to be a case filed against such abuse by agrieved party.

In case of Prashant tamang, the case could be filed by the community that was abused as they were aggrieved party. But in case of "Revenue sharing Agreement" a writ petition can be filed as the public is the aggrieved party that is affected😊

my contention is that a public writ petition shall be filed to make the revenue sharing agreements with telephone companies void....

this way the interest in dramatisation for gaining more votes will no longer be there😊

great thinking! 😃

i appreciate the views ppl have put forth.. but can't help thinking like the devil's advocate. just posting a few points that came ot mind while reading this thread..

before anyone can contemplate legal action, one needs a clear cut definition of what exactly constitutes reality tv. i feel ppl here are venturing into a major grey area as far as visual media is concerned. the thin line between factual/reality and dramatisation/fiction on television content dissolved quite a while back... be it game shows/other contests, documentaries, wildlife films and even news reporting to an extent. each format, each show is finally selling something.. and they employ all sorts of gimmicks and hooks to grab and hold the flighty viewer's attention first, then involve him in a way that he's really hooked, and then finally push him enough to put his hand in his pocket and shell out that precious sms! it's pretty much like how ad films work.. i mean, we all know that we can't jump from high rise buildings like akshay does by drinking thums up, but do we take him/company/production house to court? same thing. just cos it's popularly called reality tv, doesn't mean it is.. and doesn't qualify it to be some utopian or even public service broadcasting concept..

all in all, they're doing it to earn money using subtle, underhand, soft or sometimes hard-sell. the revenue to be earned from these so called 'reality' formats is the big carrot dangling in front of the channel houses and the companies that sponsor them. so if someone took away that carrot from them, why would they make the show in the first place? like i said, they're not into public service broadcasting..

See u cannot stop this regioanl propeganda. The people from the contestants home town itself would come out in the open and advertise. They need to stop this infinite number of votes from a single phone line....and as far as internet voting goes - if taken then again go for a fixed number per IP. They did this in NB last yr and that gave very fair results every week.

First of all, good topic Abhi👏👏

I read with interest Barnalidi's post here. I am concerned about this International challange of L'il Champs. Suppose there is a very good contestent from overseas, he or she may lose due to regional votes for some other contestent. I would not want to be a parent of these kids and bring them to such challanges and make them vulnerable.

If a reality show is going International, then they need to think twice about the voting system.

Thank you😊

I don't really understand the concept of "conflict of interest" in this aspect. Is there a law which regulates partnerships/agreements between TV Channels and Phone companies in such a way?

Also, I kind of agree with Vsakhi - Reality Television IS about drama. There are over 200 reality shows running in USA alone and all of them make use of the participants in various ways to earn revenue and hype the show.

Because the problem is that our argument centres around "drama" and that brings in a very grey area of ethics and morals. To stop the drama could possibly => stopping a company from profiting and earning revenue.

Another thing: If people are foolish enough to spend money on SMS votes, then how can the channel and phone companies be blamed?

Bingo....very good point T !!!

Instead of playing the blame game...maybe participants and in lil' champs case their parents should think twice before venturing into this.

It is after all for profit, no one is doing a samaj-seva here through these shows. All is out to profit....participants through the exposure they get, team of such shows through the revenues.
