Versatility and Genre, all these are tools to find fault in someone, otherwise a singer is good only if he makes you move- either physically or emotionaly

This debate is never ending and has been overdone.

In my opinion, NONE of these three singers are versatile. Versatility means doing the same amount of justice to two very different songs and that has not been done even by a professional singer. These people are still amateurs.

However, since we are talking about Raja, there is one genre that he can easily branch out in if he works hard - ROCK. He showed excellent control of his vocals when he transitioned between Smooth and Raspy in his adaptation of "Hum the wo thi" from Chalti Ka naam gaadi.

Naina Thag Lenge was not your typical filmy romance song. There was a strong classical touch mixed with a vibe that I felt was very Rajasthani/folksy. It was mystical, rustic and devotional in feel, and the lyrics were not all fluff and sugar. The song was not soft and sweet or jhatka watka catchy dance number. It was slow, but not soft and sweet - it had an edge to it - a very visceral sense of dard.

agreed with you here. even aneek cannot be versatile nor is amanat. they all have great voices. but they cannot sing songs that are the same type in a good way. even if they did it wont make any difference to anyone cause their here to get their footstep in bolly.

To me, versatility does not mean doing "the same amount of justice" to two very different songs. It just means being competent at singing a variety of songs - and that doesn't exclude being able to sing some styles better than others.

But why stick to genre?? These contestants are not established artistes. Its good that they sing all types of songs, show their abilities in all genres and then get the offers accordingly. Why get branded before the shop actually opens???
Ultimately one might need to settle in a particular genre but not demonstrating the talent now is escapism and setting the short term goal for victory.
