Excerpts from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_harassment
Sexual harassment is harassment or unwelcome attention of a sexual nature. It includes a range of behavior from mild transgressions and annoyances to serious abuses, which can even involve forced sexual activity. (Dziech et al 1990, Boland 2002) Sexual harassment is considered a form of illegal discrimination in many countries, and is a form of abuse (sexual and psychological) and bullying.

Dzeich (Dzeich et al 1990) has divided harassers into two broad classes: public and private. Public harassers are flagrant in their seductive or sexist attitudes towards colleagues, subordinates, students, etc. Private harassers carefully cultivate a restrained and respectable image on the surface, but when alone with their target, their demeanor changes completely.

Langelan describes three different classes of harassers. First there is the predatory harasser who gets sexual thrills from humiliating others. This harasser may become involved in sexual extortion, and may frequently harass just to see how targets respond--those who don't resist may even become targets for rape. Next, there is the dominance harasser, the most common type, who engages in harassing behaviour as an ego boost. Third are strategic or territorial harassers, who seek to maintain privilege in jobs or physical locations, for example a man's harassing female employees in a predominantly male occupation. (Langelan, 1993)

Attorney Mary Jo McGrath describes "The Winner" as a common profile that confuses harassment victims and others in the community because they do not seem like the type who would need to abuse anyone. An adult male harasser is often middle aged, married with children, a churchgoer, and someone who is highly respected in the community. A teacher who sexually harasses students may have been named "Teacher of the Year" or be Chair of their department. A young harasser may be captain of the football team, an honor student sure to attend an Ivy League school, or some other young person who thinks they have everything going for him or her (and so does everyone else). McGrath writes that sexual harassment and abuse "are acts of violence and domination, not sensuality and flirtation. These acts are calculated to dominate and control, not enhance the enjoyment and safety of the targeted person ... The violator may be very high functioning in all other areas of his or her life, but is driven within this realm to act out needs inappropriately."[10]

Brian Martin, an Australian associate professor of Science, Technology and Society writes "Most harassers don't try to justify their behaviour; they don't think about it. If asked, they may say they are just having fun and don't cause any harm. A few, though, consciously seek to humiliate their victims."[11

Would you say HR could be called a "strategic or territorial harasser"?

punjini is right. I also wanted to start a post to something similar. Himesh has no respect for women/girls except for his mom, probably. Otherwise he wouldnt irritate someone who is no way in love for Aneek. What the **** he means by " I know you are not interested in Aneek, and angry about this but I have to support my child" You dont support your child, Himesh, you have to make your child understand that the other person does not love your child and that he has to get on with life. You dont teach obsessive nature. Himesh himself is obsesessive. He is obsessed to win, however cheap he has to get.

The very proof that he doesnt respect woman, is that he chose to hide the fact that he is already married and has a 10year old son!! Even in C2005 there was talk about his love life etc., which was to be revealed later or in the finale but never came out. He talked about it after his movie was a success. To me, all men who hide their marriage are extremely cheap. That talks of how much they respect their wives. Bachelorhood doesnot bring success! Shahrukh and Aamir are successes are inspite of their marital status.

I am surprised some people call this not harrasment at all. A girl from a small town (actually the size doesnt matter in Indian society) is being discussed so much, this way on National TV with 500 crore people (according to HR) watching. How would her family members feel and what must they feel if someone even asks or jokes about this ? If onscreen its this much, imagine the torture she must be going through during stage rehearsals and practice sessions. Girls' parents would think 100 times before sending their girls to such competitions. People like HR will kill the development of girls. Actually its the fault of Zee to allow misbehaviour. They should take stern action. If they think the trp is because of HR, God help them.

I would have immense respect for Sumedha if she can goto press after she is eliminated. Because if she says anything on the show, they are going to edit it.

I said mild in a sense that it is lesser then a rape or other abuses which women face.

I agree that any harassment big or small is bad and should be condemned. including this one. I in no means said that what u have said above.

It's true that parents of girls watching this show will not be too keen to let their daughters take part after seeing HR's harassing ways.

If Sumedha goes to press with comments against HR, it could be a career-suicide for her. HR has many supporters in the industry.

But yes, I will admire her guts if she does that. In fact, the publicity might work in her favour because other MDs like Vishal-Shekhar, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and others would be more than eager to work with her.
