1. good singing
2. External beauty/or so called x factor
3. Regional/community votes.

i think aam janta those who dont know more about sur or taal they will go for the 2 and 3 options.

Even some people who know sur and taal could go for external beauty, personality or even the regional factors.

Judges comments could also affect voting.

Primary considerations for a genuine voter of a TV singing competition like SRGMP might be listed as follows:

First impression a particular singer creates during the initial stages of the competition on a voter (here viewer is different from voter since all viewers are not voters) gets firmly cemented in the mind of that voter and makes him blind towards all his subsequent substandard performances compared to his peers, mistakes, failings and other minor hitches. The dedicated fans roots for their favourite till he gets eliminated and then turn their attention to the next preference if any or lose interest depending on the extent of their craze towards the show or their favourite.

Some fans get frustrated and angered caused by the exit of their favourite one so they try the following things to take out their anger in the form of negative voting:

a. Support the rival of that singer whom they perceive was directly or indirectly responsible for their favourites exit obviously in the form of votes.
b. Try to degrade the show by voting for the weakest overall performer whom nobody likes or is likely to be the least fancied contestant ( let alone win), to progress to further rounds.

Regional/language bias is a foregone conclusion in deciding to vote for a contestant unless when there is nobody from your region to vote for. Rarely we see a person actually appreciating some one from a different region who is better than the one from one's own. Apart from regional bias sadly there are even other biases which better not be mentioned here which play a significant factor in the volume of votes a contestant attracts.

Sometimes the antics of the participants dictated by the producers to garner TRP might put off some viewers but not fans. The tactics of the producers in promoting controversies, giving air to non-existent love stories, gossips, fight between the mentors over their wards might add some spice to the show, but not necessarily transform into votes. During the controversial episode when the three pak singers were in the bottom, if it were to be believed Aditya had given the score as 21 lac votes for the week and the same number was repeated for the subsequent week, which indicated that the ruckus created actually didn't help.

Here one factor which we can include in the others category Jayaji has listed is the sympathy factor which undenyingly had resulted in Poonam & Raja topping the votes when their sob stories were highlighted in the previous episodes. This sympathy factor also comes into the picture sometimes when a good singer, giving an outstanding performance on the previous round lands in the bottom zone in the next round sending his fans into a tizzy prompting them to go on a voting frenzy to ensure that he stays above the danger level in the future(this does not happen all the times because the latest results have showed something different).

Now coming to mentor or gurus comments which actually sometime harm your favourites' chances. When a singer sings outstandingly on a particular day and all the judges shower their praises on him, the voter with multiple preferences chooses to vote for the weaker performer (according to the judges) to save him from elimination and thus the good singer loses crucial votes in the process. The gurus of SRGMP are doling out points like candies to child and since they are now playing a game of oneupmanhship with their counterparts and as we all know their comments do not carry any weight and substance, it hardly matters. But what matters is adverse comments on a contestant which might enrage a dedicated fan and make him hit back at the mentors by proving them wrong in form of more votes to their beloved contestant.

Lastly voting for handsome/pretty faces might be prevalent more in female fans, since even though male viewers admire a female contestant for her looks , they might not go the extent of spending their money on sending votes. They might just enjoy drooling over her every week and forget about voting(Please don't beat me for this😃😆😆).

Wow, what an analysis! 👏
I think this tends to happen sometimes:

Unless I believe this, I will have to beat up my head over understanding Karu's defeat by Sandeep in II2.

However, mauli's continued existence in the show beats the above argument .. 😆 region? no.. appearence - can't believe!

Here also regional theory does not seem to be valid. Karu and Hemu was able to pull upto quite advanced stages of the contests. AP is one of the best in mobile phone services, a string of TV channels ownership originate here.

I am a south Indian and we have our own musical competitions and shows, conducted by the best musicians, singers in the music industry like S P Balasubramaniam etc. Hindi TV channels are not much followed by south indians so the viewership of these singing competitions is also less when their time slot clash with other popular programmes of the southern languages. So when there is less viewership there is no question of voting in large numbers for an unknown entity.

One more crucial point that is when there are less number of contestants say 2 or 3 and you have multiple voting options the, deciding factor would be a huge dedicated vote bank prepared to go to any extent to put it across any opposition by going on a voting frenzy in all means possible.

This is why the reason that the producers of these singing competitions keep the finer details about the number of votes polled a secret. Here i am referring to the trends of voting which surely be available with the channel and the phone companies. Details like age profile of the voters, regional trends, effect of performances, drama on the stage, emotional stories on voting will make a great analysis.By maintaining the suspense the producers like to keep the voting Janta guessing so as to rake in as many revenue as possible.

It is just business and profits for the channel, producers, phone companies, advertisers, whereas the contestants are the golden goose or just guinea pigs for their experiment.
