Okay, firstly "Please leave the name of the contestants out from this particular thread because that is hindrance for any serious discussion" [MODs-sorry for using bold]
we all know about HR and Vishal's stand on this subject. I think BL and ID tend to align with HR [for BL I understand, for ID I really don't know why]. One thing is true that it is very less time for the people to pick up different genre. They will get more experience later and will definitely sing other types of songs.
OTOH, having versatility should have its own merits. being in a competition a versatility should be one factor to evaluate singers [for being versatile you have to work a lot and if judges don't recognize it then what is the point]. In my opinion a versatile singer should get more marks than a non-versatile singer. I think Vishal also thinks this but could not put it rightly in front of everyone [HR acting like a maniac and all BL/ID bullshits]
The discussion in this thread should be purely on
1. How to determine versatility?
2. In your opinion do you think it should be a important factor in a competition?
3. Do you think the show themes should be based on different genres? [we will still have ample time for promotion etc etc]
4. How to evaluate a versatile singer compared with a non-versatile one? is there any simple math that judges should follow?
5. I think in every singer there would be some limitations. someone's voice would not be suitable for folk but that person can sing rock/romantic/classical songs. Other guys can have other weak points. How can you compare between this two?
6. Don't you think instead of having only 10 points, gurus should have 100 points to evaluate the singers better? [like for a simple fault, they can give 95 points instead of 100 or they can give something like 83]
