Prashant out of Himesh's hair! By: Vickey Lalwani August 6, 2007
Gotta let you go: Himesh Reshammiya
On Sunday, Subhash Ghai stated that T-Series had bought the remake rights of the 1980 hit Karz from Mukta Arts, adding that he has refused an offer to direct the film. "How can I remake my own script when I am full of new ideas today?
I am sure Karz will be welcomed by a new generation with a new kind of making. I wish Himesh Reshammiya (who will play Rishi Kapoor's character) and Bhushan Kumar (of T-Series) the best," says Ghai.
So naturally, His Himeshness would want his childhood friend Prashant Chaddha (who has directed all his music videos and his debut film) to wield the directorial baton, no? Wrong. It seems the singer/composer-turned-actor has had a change of heart after the critical disaster that was Aap Kaa Surroor.
Tailor made
Bhushan Kumar of T-Series says that he has decided to produce a film for Himesh after Aap Kaa Surroor set the cash registers ringing. However, Prashant Chaddha won't be running the show in the Karz remake. "Prashant is working on another script, so we'll get someone else for this project," Kumar says.

The shooting for the film begins in November and Kumar doesn't want to divulge details as yet, but he admits, "Himesh's second film as an actor will be produced by us, but we have three script options.
Karz, in which the protagonist is a singer, is definitely one of them. Who better than Himesh for the role?"
In the original film, Laxmikant-Pyarelal's music largely contributed to the success of Karz, so Reshammiya will leave no stone unturned to compose for the film.
A friend of his tells HiTLIST, "You can bet that Himesh will do everything to match the high musical standards of the original. He has already started working on the tunes."
However, with Prashant Chaddha out, it will be interesting to know if Hannsika Motwani will get the nod from T-Series to step into Tina Munim's petite shoes.
What's Karz about?
Karz (starring Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Simi Garewal and Pran) was about reincarnation of a betrayed lover who returns to avenge his death, masterminded by his unfaithful wife. It had some chartbusting music, which included tracks like Om Shanti Om, Ek Haseena Thi and others.
Incidentally, Karz is a remake of the 1975 English film, The Reincarnation of Peter Proud.
