Vidya Balan chokes back tears after listening to Challenge 2007 contestant Poonam Yadav's story
Shooting From The Heart: Poonam Yadav and Vidya Balan

On Monday (July 23), Vidya Balan and Heyy Babyy director Sajid Khan were at the shooting of Zee's Challenge 2007 and it was one heart-rending experience.

When one of the contestants Poonam Yadav took to the stage and spoke about her family, Vidya apparently burst into tears. This episode will be aired tomorrow.

Says Poonam "I don't know what prompted me to speak my heart out that day. I was very moved when Vidya started crying. I didn't mean to make her cry."

Constant struggle

Recounting what she narrated, Poonam says, "Life has been a big struggle for me.

I live in a slum in Lucknow. My father passed away due to a brain haemhorrhage when my mother was only two months pregnant with me.

Her whole world fell apart and no friend or relative has ever come forward to help us. There have been days when we could make only one chapati and we would each eat half.

Today, my mother is terribly sick. There are days when she can't get up from the bed. A few days back she was in hospital."

Sajid Khan confirms the incident, saying, "Not only Vidya, but almost everyone on the sets choked back tears when an audio-visual was played on Poonam's mother's hospitalisation, her financial state and their lives."

Poonam adds, "I must take this opportunity to thank Vidya for lending me a patient ear. Who has the time to listen to someone else's sorry state today?"

I don't think we need to be such "Dharmraj" to deliver the accurate decision strictly based on merit.

Now when all know her dismal condition, then everybody should see it as an opportunity to do their bit to make difference in someone's life.

Let's assume that we keep our emotions aside and crown some other contestant, but then what change will it bring in the world of music, or in our life or what great revolution will come in the world...Nothing...

But if we support her and let her win this competition, then at-least one needy as well as deserving girl (mind you she is damn talented too) will get a life. You and I will be able to support at-least one person in this otherwise misery full world..

Shouldn't we think like that...Atleast I think like that.
