Another episode, another drama in Sa Re Ga Ma...Challenge 2007. Yesterday (July 6) Ismail Darbar expressed his displeasure after the performance of Abhijit Kosambi (winner of Marathi Sare Ga Ma..) and Anik Dhar (winner of Bangla Sare Ga..). He bluntly told them, "You are champions at the regional level and it is meaningless to come in this competition."
Ismail, known for his aggressive style of judging, said, "This is complete injustice. This was meant to be a competition and you just can't hand berths to anyone. I am not questioning the talent of these two (Anik and Abhijeet), but if they were to be a part of the show, they should have started from first like other contestants. And if they had to bring back someone, then why not someone from my gharana." Venting his frustration on the production house he said, "They had never told us these regional level champions will be also included."
Ismail was disappointed that the co-judges chose to keep mum over the issue. "I was really upset as no one came forward to support me. I don't know why they can't speak up."
When quizzed about other contestants' reaction to this issue, he replied, "Woh bechare toh bachche hai, woh kya bol sakte hai?"
We asked another judge Vishal on what his take on the controversy was. "I don't want to comment on this issue. We are here to promote music and not for TRPs," he reacted.
This is not the first time that Ismail has created a storm on the show. Last year he staged a walk out when his favourite contestant Nihira Joshi was voted out.
