I dont agree with u .. Mayya mayya .. i know was sung by a arabic singer.. and NONE of A.R. Rehman songs are unnoticed.. that song was popular.. And it did not need Mauli to be more popular..
lets not forget there are so many ppl that dont watch Sa Ra Ga Ma pa ..so they have never heard mauli..
ANd Mauli and trained in Classical singin.. Great good for her.. but then why is she always losing her pitchs, when she hits the higher notes.. she should at least know her range.. every classical trained singer i would say by know their range..
Since she does not have scared to sing on stage.. wat is the excuse for the Below average performances..
Since u claim she is classical trained.. and is a performer..
what is the excuse..
okay every singer has bad days.. but she has always been in the bottom 3 .. after mayya mayya she has not given a good performance .. they were all average, then want to below average to pityful..

All in all .. it is time to hear the sad version of Mayya mayya

Music is meant to sooth your soul and not disturb it. In the first place I do not consider Maiyya maiyaa a melodious song. It is mostly prosaic and requires person to shout and scream. AR Rehman has given music to so many beautiful songs. This one in my opinion is not a good song. Yes Mauli made it popular mostly because of the reactions shown by the young and old mentors. I wonder if they were appreciating the song or Mauli herself. As far as singing ability is concerned, Mauli in my opinion is not even fit to sing in a club let alone in an event for search of playback singing voice. We all sing in our bathrooms but do not have guts to come out and sing in public. From that perspespective, it is admirable of her, that inspite of her deficiencies in the voice quality, she is on the stage performing and making learned people like us discuss about her.

Good voice is good voice. If some one sings like Lata, whether, people are clamouring for it or not does not matter, is a good voice. Nihira Joshi is definitely a voice to listen to. If you really want to listen to a good voice go and hear Mohd. Irfan on ASVOI auditions in Jaipur. I just close my eyes and get absorbed in that song. It is pure music that will mesmerize you.

I have tried to attend one of the concert of Manual Santana in USA once. He seems to be very popular among the westerners. I went with an American couple on their insistance. Before going in the auditorium, they had a peg or two of taquilaa (I do not drink or smoke) and some thing and then put ear plugs. I wondered why they were doing that. When the concert started, every one except me (I almost hid under the chairs to avoide the noise) were standing, dancing on the chairs and swaying. I really wonder if they were swaying to Santana music or because of the effect of what they had before. For 8 days I could not hear any thing. Do you consider this as music? Not me. I definitely do not support Mauli from musical standpoint howevere original she might be. You seem to be a totally convinced fan of her. I just wish you and her good luck.

I have attended quite a few concerts..

Kishore Kumars concert came close to what you have described. I have a feeling he was not singing but lipsing. It was excruciatingly loud and had no musical value. The best concert I attended was of Talat Mehmood..what a melodeous voice..

Aphrodite:

Where did you read about me drinking 1 Pint of Taquilla (I corrected Taquilaas spelling too)? I made it very clear I do not drink. I am sure that was out of jest. It is ok.

April 2007:

For your benefit, I am pasting the link for ASVOI's June 9th episode. Irfan is the first singer after the rude Abhi Bhattacharya sings(even he is very melodious no doubt). But do not stop there. Go further till you listen to Abhilasha. And they make up your mind.

june9thsvi1.wmv--36.20MB or
http://www.amchiimast.com/uploads/star9thune.wmv.wmv

There are few more links which I did not past here. If you care to listen to "MUSIC", I will furnish you with them too.

PS: the first link is somehow not working try the second one.

If you recall Suman Kalayanpur was very good but she was Lata's copy, she didn't offer anything new, There have been many very good voice but not original or different for that reason nobody is clamouring to listen to them..

Just good voice is not enough to entice people. It has to original and have something very different to offer, otherwise you are just a copy.

She is not a complete original, but I agree that her voice is different and refreshing to hear. She will do exceedingly well in folk songs and slow, sad tunes too.

Manuel Santana is a tennis player. Is this Carlos Santana you are talking about? 😕

If that is the case, he is a rock musician, which tends to be a loud genre of music. I have always loved the way he plays the guitar.

T:

That shows how much I know of Western musicians. I do not even know the names of the show I was dragged to. He was some Santana. But believe me he was no Santa to me. He was Santa Na. Ear shattering. Thanks for correcting.
