ohh ........ SRGMP will lose TRPs further tomorrow onwards 😊

The fact that II got more TRPs than SRGMP has nothing to do with the shows themselves. It's just that II is telecasted at a less competitive time - 9-10pm - while SRGMP is telecasted at 10-11pm, when it has to compete with the highest rated K-serials, hence it garners lower viewership.

If II and SRGMP were telecasted at the same time, I'm sure SRGMP would come out well on top.

Can somebody explain what trp is and how is it determined? 😊

TRP is to Ekta Kapoor what EKG (heartbeat monitor) is to us - if it goes flat, we die. 😉

It measures the heartbeat of the people of India - logon ke dil ki baat.

Simply put, it's a rating based on the number of people who watch a show - the more the numbers, the higher the TRP. So it calculates the popularity of a show.

There are 2 methods for calculating TRPS (and this is where most of you can go to sleep 🥱)

First is frequency monitoring, in which 'people meters' are installed in sample homes and these electronic gadgets continuously record data about the channel watched by the family members. 'People meter' is a costly equipment, which is imported from abroad. It reads the frequencies of channels, which are later, decoded into the name of the channels and the agency prepares a national data on the basis of its sample homes readings. But there is a drawback in the technique, as cable operators frequently change the frequencies of the different channels before sending signals to the homes. It may be very misleading to read a channel according to a particular frequency even if the down linking frequency is same all over India.

Second technique is more reliable and relatively new to India. In picture matching technique people meter continuously records a small portion of the picture that is being watched on that particular television set. Along with this agency also records all the channels' data in the form of small picture portion. Data collected from the sample homes is later on matched with the main data bank to interpret the channel name. And this way national rating is produced.

Wow...very interesting!!😃

In US, since the channels are digital, the data collection is easy. What you are watching at any given moment is being watched (read: being recorded somewhere in some database). I have always wondered how this works in India..

In fact, I feel Zee's TRPs will more or less stay put (it may even increase, after that promo we saw). The risk is with Star, since they will be discontinuing the established K-soaps and placing VoI in its place. How would the so far loyal audience react?
