What did u guys think of todays episode????? I dont think those guys sang soooooooooo bad. Obviously u cannot compare them to Pancham da or Ashaji because they are legends and these are just starting there careers. Also mentors were just critisising the singers anyways. I think it was ok singing for sure which could be better but too much drama by the mentors which killed the fun. What do u guys think???

I didn't find the singing good. It was mediocre at best. Amanat was the one I had hopes of, after last times big impression, he sounded listless and jaded. But atleast he was more or less in sur. The only other one who was decent was Apurva. I'm sure if the rule had been to choose the two best contestants instead of one boy and one girl, he would get the green light. But all the others were pretty bad. Meghna, for instance, butchered the 'piya bawri' song. Really, she shouldn't have chosen a classical song with her voice quality. So I did find the singing pretty bad overall.

The drama was definitely even worse than the singing, but you know something? We criticize the drama, but its what keeps most people hooked. In the old Saregama format, there was less pressure of TRPs, so they could bank on good singing to see them through. You couldn't always get good singers though, I do remember episodes where the singers would be average. But people would faithfully return the next week to see if the next episode would be better. And ultimately, on average, an amazingly large number of good singers would come on the show. Now the whole ball-game is different. There are three musical reality shows happening right now (okay Voice of India hasn't started yet, but the auditions have started). So the talent is getting spread out between the shows. And even if a show has a large number of very good singers (which this time Saregamapa doesn't have) they are not guaranteed viewership. But controversies can always do the trick. I visit both Saregamapa and Indian Idol forums on IF and lot of people stick to one forum and cross-visit only when controversies arise. So the channels keep doing this.

I disagree with you...I thought the first 2 girls (including the one which got the green light) butchered the song more than Meghna. I acutally was hoping for Mughna to get the green light.

Okay, we will have to disagree on this. Meghna-- right from the first line her voice was shaking, and I can't recall a single alaap of the song when she was in sur. Now I'm not saying the others were that great. In fact I found all the girls pretty mediocre. But they chose fast numbers, where shaky voice etc can get camouflaged, and the overall impression is okay. Meghna chose a slow, classical song, and all mistakes show up very clearly there. So to me it sounded especially horrible. I'm not saying her voice is bad, but this particular song was sheer murder.

And plus the mentors shouldn't have critized them that much...HR and VS 😕 I think that was just too much, I mean give 'em a chance sheesh! They just started, you can't expect them to be perfect...

Yeh i think they were okay ..its the first round..give them sometime to prove themselves..
