How Good are Remix song Video Albums

We have had lot of discussion on remix music. Let's now have some on the remix album videos today. Frankly speaking they really irritate me. Don't get me wrong. I am not saying that I hate remix albums. There are some really good ones. Yes some I surely do. I don't hate these video albums but yes I love listening to them. Mind you ONLY "listening to them…"

I somehow find them (few good ones) a feast to my ears but punishment for my eyes. They have one factor in common – Models skimpily dressed. And if asked why the picturisation is so bad, you will obviously get an answer that if the videos are not made in that way then no one will watch them which will result in the flop of the video. Do you all remember Shaan's remixed version of Roop tera mastana? Wasn't it a great song and a cool video...?

Many would say it was long back and with time we should progress. But sorry to say to me this is not progress. Progress is great… But our music video's all are somehow trying to do the same thing. These albums are being made not for music but for JUST video. This can't be called as progress for music. Atleast, not in my own personal opinion!

Again, let me clarify. I have nothing against 'Remix' music as such. Some of the Remix music is really cool and so are some of the Remix music videos especially the older ones like 'Hum Bewafa' etc. But post 'Kaanta Laga' phenomenon somehow there is hardly any music video that is clean and worth watching. "It is the demand of the market", the music directors would say. The videos are getting worse day by day. Certain videos like "Mausam Mastana" are just ridiculous. I was even shocked when the song "Jhumaka Gira re" by Asha Bhosle herself was made the same way.

With the governments spending time on banning dance bars they should also take a peek at these videos. The better thing would be to legalize the whole thing and keep it under the scanner with fixed rule and regulations binding it… it is not how it affects the moral fabric of the society and things like that… What is important is to prevent children from viewing them. Don't we have censor laws for movies with such scenes? Then what's so different with these videos especially when they are being aired on TV 24 hours a day and everyone watching it.

Much needed topic didi 👏

The first music video that I watched was Sophie's remix album ek pardesi mera dil legaya.. And I was totally shocked to see that.. That album included songs like Jadoogar saiyaan, Naulakha, Dil ke Arman.. And the dance - should i actually call it a dance or aerobic exercise 😕

First the remix of songs, and then these models dancing which makes no sense 🤢 And after all this they make a statement - These days youth are modern and they do not follow the culture of India.. If they actually shoot these albums and telecast who will not watch it 😉

Thanks to my cable wala as he cut both MTV and V Channel 😆 😆

Thanks Barnalidi for this topic. 👏👏

It's true the video albums have deteriorated to a level which is now not worth watching.... especially with the family. Now a days I make it a point to buy just the audio CD of the albums. Those video's are really not worth watching. And Channel V or other such channels... well I simply avoid watching them.

Just a question to these album makers. Are these albums being made for the sake of listening to good music or for watching these excellent video's. This thinking by the directors that unless we give such video's they will not sell is wrong. I know many would say there are classical or light classical albums which have good video's. But what about light songs. You can't expect us to listen to just classicals.

This is the same issue I has once raised in another section. Do we need censor board for TV's now? Is that the demand of the nation now? I feel maybe it is. Light censorship is needed for TV shows too now. Especially because they are being watched by people of all age and that too most of the times together.

A simple movie like Elizabeth when got released in India was declared to be "A" movie.... reason being there was one scene where they showed the head being cut or something. And these video's are ok!!! This is something we really need to ponder now.

I have mixed feelings about the current remix videos..

There are some very tastefully done remixes..The last one I came across a good video remix was "Lovers collection". It has Jagjit Singh, Hariharan, Pankaj Udhas, Kavita, Altaf Raja etc singing old songs and the video is on some actors and actresses of bollywood.

Most of the others are competing with each other who can be more vulgar.

This topic really does beg the question, do we not have a system of rating in India. A censor board is all very well and good, but even they pass the most .. well, words can hardly describe now can they.

I guess we're all on the same page here ... the videos are neither a must, nor worth the money waste in making them.

At one of our parties, someone who had recently come from India put in a DVD of remix songs. The song list looked decent enough.. and having heard the remix versions before we were okay with it. Alas, as soon as the play button was pressed the mom's were covering the kids' eyes, the dads were looking here there and everywhere else but the TV. Fast forwarding didn't do much either. The only song we were able to watch without either gagging, fastforwarding or otherwise avoiding was "Neele Neele Ambar" with JA doing the vid for the song.

Few words come to mind when I think of the latest music videos: vulgar, unneccesary, graphic, grotesque, degrading... shall I continue.
They truly belong in an "adult" sort of category. 😕 Catch my meaning?

As for censoring the TVs... I'm more for rating them, and then having the parents decide what the kids can watch and not watch. Much like the American system really. It's fairly clear cut and has worked rather well. There are very few cases where I might have considered the rating too high or low, but that's a rarity.

If we have a censor board for Indian cinema, albeit one that doesn't seem to understand the concept of rating and censoring, then why not one for the TV. And why have a board that discusses and debates...issue a standard set of rules that can be applied and discuss the ones that are borderline only.

Of course, there's a problem or two related to that... first being corruption which seems to be a wide-spread phenomenon. Can't stop corruption...it'll exist at some level or the other, just waiting to be exploited.
And the other problem being...as soon as we do create a functioning rating and censoring system, what more will we be subjected to? 😕

I dont watch remix videos much atall. I like the remixed songs though some of them atleast. Most just drop under my radar. If i like the song i watch the video to see how it is. I love all the remix song videos from "Instant Karma" it was very very nice. So remix and pop videos can be made really well for instantce "Leja leja" alas the sad part is this is not the case most of the time Rakhi Sawant gets on my nerves, so does Nigar Khan and that girl from baby doll. 😆 😆 😆 But from the uploads and download ratios i see online on the websites it seems lots of "other" people still get them like hot cakes.

I'm a little surprised by your answer actually.. but it's good to hear. I wasn't sure if "Leja Leja" could be classified as remix, hence didn't include it... but I agree it was well done 😊

😆 The ahem, ladies you mentioned have found a secure niche for themselves. Considering the population of Indians and NRIs, plus the availability of the internet to the masses.. it's no wonder they are so ... "popular" ... 😕

Haven't listened to Instant Karma.. shall check it out at some point. 😊

"Instant Karma" is the name of the group by Farhad, Eshaan and Loy, Awesome singers like Shaan , Shankar Mahadevan , Mahalaxmi Iyer , Zuben Garg have all sang in their "remixes" You should deffinately check it out. Youtube it i am sure you will find something lol 😆😆. Also i like "Cute" girls not the girls who wear the least clothing... i am sorry you got that wrong impression about me. I have seen a few good girls in some remix videos.. of course Instant Karma's lead female is CHOOOOO TWEET!!! also that GORGEOUS female from "Saheri babu". I have always said i like remix songs it is just that most are not made well and sound crap.. the few that i do like are simply awesome 😉. In general i am not all for remix songs but i am not against it also because like i said they can be made very very well and also the videos. 😉 It is unfortunate you have only heard "junk" hahah and you miss out on all the good ones. So you see how people can make a bad judgement just because from what they have experienced while others might have had a different experience all together.😛

I was referring to quantity not quality 😛 I had expected you to have a greater exposure since you typically do listen to mixed-range of music.

Yes, a few bad experiences have had me edging away from all remixes..but that's when friends with suggestions come handy 😉

googling and youtubing "instant karma" gets you john lennon 😆 Shall have to get more specific at a later time or date.

I am somehow allergic to the word remix. I prefer the original song, the way it is picturised (especially when we are talking about golden era songs) However, I guess it is again personal preference.

A video should be aesthetically done, the song should be the highlight or the story the song is trying to portray. Unfortumnately I have seen a couple of these Remix video's - one was kaanta laga and some, which I was shocked that it could be sold as a video for a song and not get any "A" mark on it !!! I may sound way too old fashioned, but trust me, I was really uncomfortable watching it in the presence of family members, and that too an younger cousin sis !! These upcoming models, who are generally featured on the videos have no qualms about the costumes they wear or dont wear, and it is pathetic to see a sensuous number, completely made so titillating and crude to attract buyers.

I feel even these video's should be made to pass through censorship. There is a fine line which divides crudity from sensuality. Some of these videos according to me fall in the crude category.I personally keep away from video remixes unless I am told by reliable sources that they are worth watching . Again that is personal choice of mine, its a point of view not a statement.😊
