Congrats Rahul. so finally we get U here.😃
usually i never ask anyone but after reading all the pages hav one question from u.
U hav studied both at IIT and then Harward. now what difference did U find in the way of teaching here in india and there. was there any marked difference? Maybe will ask more but after reading ur reply to this query.😊
haha, yes i did land in hot water finally
IIT was a great experience, one of the best education anyone could ask for. very heavy on engg, though a bit light on the liberal arts humanties courses. i think the fact that u're interacting with a bunch of very smart people really challenged us. i found no difference in quality of professors/ tutors between IIT and some of the non-MBA electives i took at Harvard.
however the MBA program was a totally different thing. was a very unusual experience because the entire program was case-oriented. there were no lectures. we'd have the professor ask someone to "open the case". that ultimately led to group discussion with a lot of lively give-and-take, pretty much how we'd expect a corporate board-room to work. was hard for me initially because i could not fall back on scientific precise answers and had to learn to present my viewpoints effectively for abstract real-world problems. situation also required being able to think on our feet, good preparation for the career i have today as a fund manager/ trader. but it was hard then and at tremendous odds to the engg training.
an example- we'd be given a 30-40 case on a company to read during our finance exam. the only question would be- would you buy this stock at $25. why/ why not? that meant getting into subjective issues, HR, marketing etc. That's very different from other American/ non-American colleges including IIT where you can typically expect mathematical calculation type questions, not subjective essay-type answers that necessitate more complex integrated thinking...

Kucch questions ho jaye:
1. When does a debate become speech? How?when it is preachy, meant to only inform and not persuade. i think
2. When does a debate become Hathdharmi? How?haha, wat's that?
3. Is Indian politician a debator or speaker?bhashan dene mei mahir hain. so i guess that wld be speaker?
4. Which is good, better and best? explain briefly.
a. Leading by example
b. Leading by debate
c. Leading by speechdepends on the setting. in small groups, it would be leading by example. no second thoughts for me. in larger mass media contexts, as in TV townhall/ debate settings, it would have to be "leading by speech". i am not sure where "leading by debate" comes in. there is value in debates, but not sure of how one leads via that.
5. What is your dream debate?debating with a beautiful girl and making a convincing case for myself😉😆
Rahul, in this case there will be many boys who will say it's good to marry her so weaker side will be to convince not to marry her... so how will you convince her to marry you.... as you will be debating to convince not to marry her, right? just giving you hard time rahul ..... but wish you could convince in real life...

Aisa to humanitarian grounds me hi nahi hona chahiye 😆 Yeh baat aur bhi hai, Rahul unhi friends ko approach karega where he knows that the person can fill his awesome shoes.. so even in that case outsourcing to me is cancelled 😳

Arrey wah MBA from Harvard, I did from small university but MBA course is more fun than other courses based on mathematics... In MBA it looks like you are facing something real everynight and lot of people trying to share as much as possible... You can evaluate the actual worth of a stock theoratically by using maths but practically, story is different.
true. and fwiw, the harvard program was about the practical case aspects. so there was very little transition work going from b-school to wall street in terms of looking at situations and companies wholistically.
but on the more technical aspects of arbitrage/ complex instruments pricing, the theory would have also helped. but one developed the ability to read theoretical texts on one's own thanks to the IIT grounding. so in my case, the combo was good
