Africa's main language is Swahili. In school we had to take only one subject in swahili and the rest was all in English. All indians in Tanzania have grown up watching Hindi movies and hearing Hindi songs.

However the original Africans whose fore fathers were born in Africa (let me post the photo for you😆)

These people don't speak Hindi, but speak swahili😃 - But trust me they know who Amitabh Bachan is. Anytime there was a movie in Theater of Big B, the theater was packed with local people, even though they did not understand the language.

Abh kuch samaj me aya?😉

ok ok😆 but is Swahili somewhat related to Hindi?

yea well a lotta Indians, i guess, live in USA and Canada😕😆 but i've never heard of Indians living in Africa that's why....

Just to inform you

There are thousands of Indians in Tanzania(East Africa and also south Africa)their ancestors are from various parts of India, they all speak Hindi ,Swahili and English, I have many friends here who are from East Africa, they are mostly Ismaeli Muslims, and they all speak Hindi .In fact, the owners of my video store are from Tanzania and they speak perfect Hindi.

Also, nowadays all Bollywood movies are subtitled in English and many other languages including Swahili. Also, there are many, many regions in Africa that show Bollywood movies.

Anyhow, I am glad that the Indian Idol crowd invited Sameer to go along with them. I am very happy for him, he will rock the crowd.👏👏

Can our IF member from Tanzania, pls give us further updateson their concerts etc.

Wow, this thread has become a real eye opener for Africa, so far underrepresented on IF.

My father worked for a British company in Zambia (if I remember my geography correctly it borders Tanzania) so I'm kind of familiar with the atmosphere. It is Christian dominated, English speaking so my family managed fine for 12 yrs without speakinga word of any African dialect. The latest Hindi films were available there, many with English subtitles.

Many of our family friends lived in tanzania (migration among these small African nations is v common), and Dar e Salaam is a major port on the East Africa costilne.

African wildlife is breathtaking, you can rent huts in the lare wildlife parks and observe them at close quarters. Myself, I have seen herds of elephants from my car playing at wayside pools.

Yes, thanks to Sameer to bring awarness of Africa to IF 😳 - Though I am sure many already knew about Africa, but I see some members don't know about it...so thanks to the topic starter and Sameer 👏

Oh I agree african wildlife is just breath taking. In Tanzania I lived in the small town called Morogoro and about 3 hours from my town there was another town called Iringa. Well, on holiday when we used to travel by car to Iringa the road to iringa was dividing the wild forest where we actually saw wild zebra, lions, elephants etc. At times we even saw Lion hunting - It was out of this world view. I remember one time we had to slow down as the Zebra was was crossing the road to go to the other side of the forest...isn't that something? - I will be honest, when I was in back home I took the wild life for granted😭 - I love animals and now the animals here can be found in the Zoo.

Zaida, I posted some pics. of Uganda on Page 4 but for a year we also lived in Tanzania, Bukoba. Dad was Postmaster so we travelled. I was very very young then! We had hippos come in our backyard to graze at night and no light even! We should catch up one of these days. Cheers. Minali
