A 10 year old will buy as a aprt of melodious legacy. We in 2006 still go crazy of some songs from the 40's.50's, 60's ,70's 80,...so much so that in the 2000's some of these olden gems are remixed...🤢(this one for the remix)
do u think any from the 1995-, 2006 have the ability to haunt one say in 2025?
Lets extrapolate this but not too far back in the past. Tell me if you come across a CD of Ashiqui. or say QSQT would you listen to the songs just out of a thought of getting good music??? I definitely would QSQT bought acoustic guitar/harmonica back to music in a new package.
Everything gets overridden in time.. how many of us listen to Saigal, maybe once in while and in solitude not at a party of course. In 2025... kishore kumar would have achievd that status atleast in time.. though i still feel 60, 70 will still be considered a golden era then.. but... new generation wants new sound of music...
Few days ago i heard Shankar jaikishan's " beatles - I wanna hold ur hand" adaptation, (i forgot the film...). it sounds so naive and outdated for western music...i just want a new sound of music... like Aadat, Soniye, (many of the HR rhythm's and beat)...on the other hand a voice of Geeta dutt or Hemant kumar still carries the resonating effect and lasting value...atleast for me...and for now...and doesnt sound outdated and I purposely left KK, MR, LM, AB out of this since they carry their super-sized halo everytime...😊 they are mentioned.
I think today's songs have come from and will end up in the recycling bin of MDs and not really become memories.
Whereas in the golden era, almost every song was set to create history, today's songs will probably be forgotten even by the actors who lip-sync them!
We are being overwhelmed by quantity not quality.
There was a time when Madan Mohan could not get a Filmfare award because Shankar Jaikishan were getting them. Can you imagine the dilemma of Filmfare jury which had to choose from such gems of music directors?
Today the dilemma for the jury must be - which is the worst of all the songs and they must be eliminating them one by one until the best of the worst is left. 😆
Sorry people, go ahead and call me old-fashioned.
No Punjini i dont think you are old fashioned atall. You just have a taste for music that the music directors and composers are just not putting out at the moment. Atleast not as often. I am sure if you listen to Anwar , Yatra , Umrao jaan there is a song or 2 in those albums that are deffinately your type. Also because todays music is not in your taste doesnt mean they are bad. Just because they are not in TOP 10 on your list doesnt mean the rest of the billions dont enjoy them. They are in TOP 10 it is because they are good and some one enjoys it. 😆😆😆
No Azndesi, today's stuff is definitely sub-standard, according to me and I stand by it. Lyrics are ordinary. Where is that fire which came from the poet's pen? Where is the romance that fell like soothing raindrops? Why do we get the feeling that every new song has been recycled from some other song? Where are thos innocent feelings? Why do I not feel refreshed and charged as I do when I listen to Rafi, Kishore, Asha and Lata?
If today's best were made to compete with yester-year's music, today's songs will fall by the wayside.
Just because a song comes in some Top 10 programme on TV, it doesn't mean the song is there on the basis of merit.
Obviously, today's kids will try to choose a song from whatever is made available to them. They are used to trash and they will think this is how music should be.
It's not just music, every creative art has suffered with the passing of years. And it's not just in India, but in the western world too.
Old is gold!
Very very well said punjini...Music is your own experience, your own thoughts, your wisdom but couldnt help but agree with you more than a couple of times in this post. One good thing about music, when it hits you, you feel no pain. Thats what the oldies do to me...lata and asha ji, mukesh and kishore da (the most), just to name a few. I dont think todays music will ever be able to move me as much as the golden stuff does. I'm not saying ALL of today's music is rubbish, there are good lyrics and there are good compositions you just have look and look hard! For me its rare that I fall in love with the new stuff (there are a few, very few but there some that I love) since i also stand by Old is Gold.👏
What's best in music is not to be found in the notes😳
