House of gold
|
Golden Kis-mat Done up in his trademark kilos of gold, nothing much seems to have changed about this musician. "I wouldn't want to change anything about my personality or my lifestyle," he says nonchalantly. "I know that some people make fun of the chains and bracelets I wear. But it doesn't affect me. Just like people are fond of shoes, perfumes and clothes, I'm fond of gold. Now it has become my image and I refuse to part with it," he says. Seven is the number of gold chains that dangle around his neck. |
Facing the music Bappida has a state-of-the-art recording studio in his house. "Out of the three living rooms, one has been converted into a recording studio and the other into a riyaaz room. The minute Bappida steps into his studio, he breaks into a song. He says that singing is something that comes naturally to him the minute he steps into this room. Although he is a music director himself, of late he has been singing for other composers too. "The songs that I've sung for other music directors have been big hits, I think I'm damn lucky for others," he states. |
Prize catch This place is exclusively for the trophies and awards that Bappida has won throughout his career. Still singing, he says, "I'm training my son Bappa to be like me." Apparently his daughter Rima too has sung for him in his video. His daughter and her husband continue to live in the Lahiri home. "I didn't want my daughter to live away from me," he asserts. As for his wife, Bappida is all praises for her culinary talent. "She rarely cooks now but my wife makes the best macher jhol (fish curry). She has trained the cooks and the staff to cook it just like her," he says. |
Tree dimensional "My house is huge," Bappida announces. He says that he always renovates one or the other section of his house. A big house requires a lot of maintenance. For example, right now the garden is getting a face-lift. The Lahiris love trees. Bappida isn't fond of socialising. "I've very few friends in the industry. The only person I keep in touch with is Mithun Chakraborty," he says. Bappida has composed and sung for 50-odd Mithun starrers. "He doesn't live in Mumbai but whenever he is in town, we make it a point to meet," he says |
The good life The parking space in the Lahiri house is vast. "I have six cars," Bappida says. There's more to it. Bappida has an eleven-member team at his beck and call. "I've a few servants working inside the house. A gardener, two watchmen, etc. Overall, there are 11 people working for me," he says proudly. One of them has been appointed to only put on his shoes and socks for him! "I'm not young any more and my body doesn't allow me to run around for my personal work. So, my Man Friday does the running around for me," Bappida admits. |
