In the yesteryears too the MD strove for pure quality and went to no holds barred extent to accomplish same..
If a particular singer was unwell a director like Vasant Prabhu or even that venerated duo of Shanker Jaikishan used to wait till he or she was well enough to return to the sound studio.. And the talim and rehearsals were strenuous indeed.. The application of the singers to their MD was aking to lord worship.. total sincerity..The value of money was thus lowered in the interest of self esteem , justifiable ego , and final fulfillment of a song sequence.
gladly enough they were not into this silly Macdonald and Burger King fast food syndrome so there was no pressure like himmy has and had to churn out 36 some records ....they believed in one lohar ki instead of such silly 100( soh) sunaar ki .. 😛
some of our present MD are indeed in this mould
I consider Rahman and Durbaar in the same category 👍🏼
I also am very sure that Nihira with her level headednesss is a chip of that good ole block

That was very nicely put,egghatcher👏👏👏

There were few singers like Rafi, Kishore, Asha, Lata and others who sang lot of songs plus maintained their quality.Perhaps at that time, we had very good composers, lyric writers supporting them. These singers happen to have the best voicesand no one has been able to come close to them till this date.

But the big question is Does the Professional today really Believes in what they say or Is it just another publicity stunts. Or Do they charge a real handsome amount for a few chosen work as they make from all the conventional songs composed and rendered?

After all Showbiz is all about money, Talent and survival.

Statement is a personal one.

so true, coolloma 👏👏👏

Very nice topic Amit. 👏 here's my views on this subject.

composers and singers have all kinds of different styles of work. Some produce a few masterpieces and a lot of lesser work. others produce a large quantity of music at the highest level.some work only in a few genres others do practically everything. some work in a style they've established, others insist on reinventing themselves again and again. Some work steadily, others in bursts.

i feel the quality and quantity are not as such related much. yes unless the quality is too bad. For example i have never heard too many weak Lata song. here we see both quality and quantity. at times an assessment of the quality needs to wait until the ear gets used to them.

assessing quality also becomes difficult when we press the question into our preconceived ideas of what constitutes quality.

but yes at times i feel if anything, there is a positive correlation between quality and quantity in the creative arts. great creative artists become great, in part, because they have a vast amount of experience in their art. was it Edison who said: "Success is one part inspiration, two parts perspiration"?

Quantity is in many case in Bollywood especially for our MD's is

90 % collection (of songs from all over the world)

5% selection(of song from collection for our own movies)

5%presentation(in bollywood style)😃
