u're a judge at a mock trial... and one of ur relatives is participating in that mock trial... He did a really good job at questioning the witnesses... and he's very confident that he's gonna win a medal for it 'cuz u're his relative but a kid from another school was way much better than him.... who wud YOU give the medal to?

IF u give the medal to the opposing team of ur relative... how wud u console ur relative?

IF u give it to ur relative... how wud u explain ur co-judges that he was better than the other kid?

When you sit as a Judge in any trial, you know no relatives or friends.
Firstly I would inform everyoen that the participant is my relative and only if the others agree, then will I continue to sit as a Judge.

I would go with the one with the better performance. In matters of career and competition, no one is a relative and only merit should win.

There is no question of consoling the relative, for he did not perform as best as the winner.

Second part does not arise at all, as I would tell them before the event.
