just my thoughts 😳

Noted. Will keep it in mind.

😳😳😳 Hearing it right now.... but cant help saying here that badi sooni sooni hai remains a favourite... 😳 Just cant get over the feeling in his voice in the song..... especially the drag over the words baadi sooooni soooni hai.... that additional drag gives it a very different feeling altogether.

Nice idea about Kishore da special - but I don't think we really need one on him at this point. We just had 3 episodes on him a few months ago - and to have another special on him again would be too soon - considering all the other singers haven't even gotten more than 1 episode.

I think the idea behind Retro Cafe was to bring old music to the new generation who may not have heard all these gems. But almost everyone has heard Kishore da, not only in his 3 special episodes, but also a lot in the RD Burman episode, as well as in the Hrishida episode. Also, his songs are relatively newer and more popular.

Instead, I think we should focus on the lesser heard numbers and singers - probably from the 50s and 60s. My favorite episode so far has been Geeta Dutt - I hadn't heard many of her songs - and even a lot of those that I had, I didn't know they were sung by her.

I am sure there are tons of other singers we haven't heard, or songs we've heard but didn't know who sung it. That's what Retro needs to bring to us. Rafi saab himself has many songs a lot of us haven't heard - he got only 1 episode.

Sorry if I've turned off any Kishore da fans - I know there are tons of them in here

Shady ji,
I think its more about paying homage in our own little way to the legends of yore.

But, I do get your point. I myself dont listen to the retro specials because the songs are usually common (they're still classics though) ones heard all over the place. Maybe we can try and have a theme for this one retro special (some rare songs/include some from movies he's acted in/some sound-bites of different celebrities talking about Kishore da/have the RJ talk about some anecdotes from his life).

Shady, no offence taken at all.... I think you ask any Kishore Kumar fan, they can keep listening to him forever for he has so many songs to suit every mood, every moment, that you will never get over his songs.

Agree that Retro needs to bring all singers and thats what we try to do as well.

In fact, its been a suggestion by many, since long that we can use Retro to also pay our tribute to our favourite singers, which is why we are now trying to also coincide the shows with their anniversaries.

When Kishore Kumar podcast was released the choice of songs was that of the production team and well, though it is beautiful, it could have been better.

Of course, the same goes for Mohd. Rafi Saab and for that matter, Naushaad Saab as well.

We missed the anniversary of Mohd. Rafi Saab, as the date slipped my attention and was got to notice very close to the next podcast date, by which time it was too late to change it.

We do intend to bring out a proper series on Rafi Saab as well, and other singers as well, for which I have asked members to suggest names here.

I have noted Jaya's suggestion that we need to take care to ensure that the popular numbers are not repeated, so that we can have a wider repertoire of songs in the podcast.

We will definitely be getting them all here, but if we can also do things on their anniversary as our way of paying tributes, we would like to do that as well.

I note Juggye ji point about rare songs. Many of us here listen to his music day in and day out, however, the attempt of Retro is also to take this music to those who dont hear it or who havent heard it. If we bring out the rare songs first, or the ones which are not popular, we may not exactly appeal to them. So the approach was to go with popular and catchy songs, so that you can address a wider audience and then we can slowly bring in the other ones, like classical, theme based etc. Classical, of course, we are planning a whole series on it and Barnali is working on that one.

Yodelling or singing romantic songs. Adding a note of comedy or a dash of sadness, Kishore Kumar could do it all.

Priya ji, what you said is correct - building up an interest in our audience is definitely of more essence. I was just giving some suggestions for a "different" show (since ppl had mentioned that we've had 3 retro specials based on Kishore da). e.g. I like "musafir hoon yaaron" as a song but I wouldn't want it to be played at every retro dedicated to Kishore Kumar, RDBurman, Gulzaar saaheb. I was just listing some ideas so that we can maybe "mix and match" :)

Regarding the retro on Classical, I had recently heard a show on classical music on another radio. Started off with a short general piece on hindustani classical. Since it'll probably be a 1 hour piece, I would suggest picking up only 2-3 raags per episode. Play a few popular classics based on that raag (just one antara should suffice) and then a classical vocal/instrumental piece so that people can then notice the similarities...
