I am sure there are tons of other singers we haven't heard, or songs we've heard but didn't know who sung it. That's what Retro needs to bring to us. Rafi saab himself has many songs a lot of us haven't heard - he got only 1 episode.
Shady, no offence taken at all.... I think you ask any Kishore Kumar fan, they can keep listening to him forever for he has so many songs to suit every mood, every moment, that you will never get over his songs.
Agree that Retro needs to bring all singers and thats what we try to do as well.
In fact, its been a suggestion by many, since long that we can use Retro to also pay our tribute to our favourite singers, which is why we are now trying to also coincide the shows with their anniversaries.
When Kishore Kumar podcast was released the choice of songs was that of the production team and well, though it is beautiful, it could have been better.
Of course, the same goes for Mohd. Rafi Saab and for that matter, Naushaad Saab as well.
We missed the anniversary of Mohd. Rafi Saab, as the date slipped my attention and was got to notice very close to the next podcast date, by which time it was too late to change it.
We do intend to bring out a proper series on Rafi Saab as well, and other singers as well, for which I have asked members to suggest names here.
I have noted Jaya's suggestion that we need to take care to ensure that the popular numbers are not repeated, so that we can have a wider repertoire of songs in the podcast.
We will definitely be getting them all here, but if we can also do things on their anniversary as our way of paying tributes, we would like to do that as well.
I note Juggye ji point about rare songs. Many of us here listen to his music day in and day out, however, the attempt of Retro is also to take this music to those who dont hear it or who havent heard it. If we bring out the rare songs first, or the ones which are not popular, we may not exactly appeal to them. So the approach was to go with popular and catchy songs, so that you can address a wider audience and then we can slowly bring in the other ones, like classical, theme based etc. Classical, of course, we are planning a whole series on it and Barnali is working on that one.
