Well I don't know about the origin of the proverb. However what I have analysed that earlier men were working outside and women were staying in home. Since there was someone taking care of home and children, men were working only with one aim of being successful without worrying about home. This made them successful and hence it is said so.

There is another take, woman is mentally far stronger than a man. Hence whenever a man feels low and disappointed like a loser, it is woman who can bring you back from the depression.

Even behind my success, my mother is there as both my parents have worked a lot to give us the education that we wanted.

Another thing is earlier women were not allowed to come up so no woman was successful and hence no one could say that a man is behind woman's success.

Now - you knew that I will love this answer, didn't you 😃
