This seems to be an anomaly or whatever u call in mathematics.

It seems, Ramanujam found it but never disclosed it during his life time and that it has been found from his dairy.

See this illustration:

-6 = -6

9-15 = 4-10

adding 25/4 to both sides:

9-15+(25/4) = 4-10+(25/4 )

Changing the order

9+(25/4)-15 = 4+(25/4)-10

(this is just like : a square + b square - two a b = (a-b)square.)

Here a = 3, b=5/2 for L.H.S and a =2, b=5/2 for R.H.S.

So it can be expressed as follows:

(3-5/2)(3-5/2) = (2-5/2)(2-5/2)

Taking positive square root on both sides:

3 - 5/2 = 2 - 5/2

3 = 2

😕 😕 😕

So it can be expressed as follows:

(3-5/2)(3-5/2) = (2-5/2)(2-5/2)

Taking positive square root on both sides:

3 - 5/2 = 2 - 5/2

3 = 2

Abhi.. you took the positive sq roots of both sides.. but if you were to simply get their roots, then positive root of one side would be equal to the negative root of the other.

(3-5/2)(3-5/2)=(2-5/2)(2-5/2)

Square root both sides

Possible roots for left side = 3 - 5/2, -3 + 5/2

Possible roots for right side = 2 - 5/2, -2 + 5/2

Now let's compare the positive root of one side with the negative root of the other

3 - 5/2 = -2 + 5/2

3 + 2 = 5/2 + 5/2

5 = 10/2

5 = 5

Other way

-3 + 5/2 = 2 - 5/2

-3 - 2 = -5/2 - 5/2

- 5 = -10/2

-5 = -5

So basically, for this problem, the opposite sign roots were equal to each other, while the same sign roots didn't work.

But the example is perfectly correct as per mathemetical rules.....

if we say

x square = y square we say x=y and not x=-y

When we square root, we actually say,

x or -x = y or -y

more specifically in this case

x = -y, y = -x

Shady when we take singally x square we say root are x or -x as square of both is x square.....

However when we are comparing the two we cant do it as per mathemetical rules
then either
x=y or -x=-y

lets explain
4=4
now taking opposite roots we cant say 2=-2 isnt it

But when we take 4 as a single number not compared to anything

the roots are 2 and -2

It all depends on how you look at it.

Okay let's say x = y and -x = -y

Take an example x^2 - 4, y^2 = 4

x = + or - 2, y = + or - 2

Let's take x as 2 and y as 2

x = y is 2 = 2

or if we take x as -2 and y as -2

x = y is -2 = -2

Similarly, if we say x = -y

let's take x as 2 and y as -2

x = -y is 2 = -(-2) which is 2=2

or lets take x as -2 and y as 2

x = -y is -2 = -2

So you see, it's all about what you take to compare, because x can be both + and -, and so can y.
