NIHIRA - 'Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo...'

Hi Friends,

Nihira sang this beautiful ghazal in the Amar Sangeet Performance in New Jersey on Sat June 24^th. I wanted to post this song first because I thought it was one of the most beautiful performances of the night…"Aaj jaane ki zid na Karo". Watching and listening to her sing this number was a real pleasure. It was 100% her effort, with very little instrumental music, her voice sounded so pristine and crystal clear... it was mesmerizing. I had never seen Nihira put so much of feeling into her singing – (all through Challenge 2005, this was one of the criticisms I heard – that her singing was sometimes mechanical). Well, this was definitely a very soulful performance.

Aaj jane ki zid na karo..originally sung by farida khanum..in old sa re ga ma,when sonu nigam was the host one of the participans had sung this gazal(quite nicely) and sonu had commented that it is difficult to sing this piece because the of the words...they are too direct...
Nihira has done it extremely well..with minimum instrumental support.I have always liked Nihira but she seems to be better than Sa Re Ga Ma days.

I was watching C 2005 Mast Moments yesterday on TV... hearing Nihira sing Chup Chup Ke was just mindblowing..
