For Debojit Saha it's a step forward in the playback industry. The Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Challenge winner has launched his debut album titled Debojit.
"We had thought of giving it another title, either Jeena or Teri Dua Se—two songs from the album. But then we named it after me for instant identification," says Debojit.
After winning the Challenge trophy, life hasn't exactly been easy, with other contestants stealing the thunder. "I'm happy with what I'm doing and with my guru Ismail Durbar. Only I know how hard he has worked on me. You must hear his track in the album which he recorded overnight. He doesn't believe in technological gimmicks, and the entire Sufiyana song was recorded live."
Most other tracks including Duma duma have been composed by music maestro Biddu. "He's amazing. We hit it off immediately," he says. "He always has a catch phrase in his songs, in my case it was Duma duma. The gestures that accompany the song are being emulated by kids. It's heartening to see children respond to my music as much as grownups. I guess I'm blessed."
After releasing the album in his hometown Guwahati, Debojit embarked on a cross-country tour. "Everywhere I've been received with equal enthusiasm."
Next on the anvil is an album in Bengali and Assamese. On the film front, Debojit has recorded a song for Bappi Lahiri in the film Cabaret. "Bappida quickly approved my song, a groovy dance number. Other producers like Mukesh Bhattji and composers like Himesh Reshammiyaji and Pritamji are showing an interest in my voice," says Debojit.
