But yes no question about his music. They were just great. The interview will cause a few ripples in the music industry I am sure.... Those were very bold statements.

Thanks Priya for the article.😊

This is from an earlier thread by Swar_Raj: Bollywood Music Directors - Some Facts!

Once, in early 1950s, Lata had refused to sing the song 'Main baharon ki natkhat rani' (Film: Boot Polish), because initially the lyrics were 'bazaron ki', which was objectionable to Lata. So it was changed to 'baharon ki' for Lata's sake. Even then Lata would not budge and continued her refusal to sing the song, and finally SJ had to record this song using Asha's voice.

During the recording of one of the songs for one of his earlier films Aasman of 1952, he had invited Lata to sing a song for him. It is said that while Lata was in the mixing room of the recording studio, she heard OPN badmouthing the recording technicians. After listening to some objectionable words, Lata immediately got up and left the studios without telling OPN and never again associated with him. OPN finally took her sister Asha Bhonsle for many of his songs, which went on to become superhits. In fact, Asha is very grateful to OPN for giving her a break in the real sense. It was Film Naya Daur that brought Asha to the forefront of popularity along with her sister Lata who already had made it big.

Actually, we dont know under what circumstances he was forced to leave his house. As someone said above, I did not know that he was lost for I used to see him in the earlier SRGMPs.

Surely, at his age, he must have had some valid reasons for doing what he did. He did say in teh article that he could not live with them for various reasons.

Brilliant man, who has given us some wonderful music, who took on the guantlet thrown by Lata Mangeshkar that no one could survive without her, for having given Asha Bhosle the best songs of his career.👏

Also the pioneer of "topi" 😉

Just Kidding - OP Saab - A great and non traditional music director. 👏👏

Jee, Anol, Original Topi 😆 He made that his style and his signature.

Re your earlier post about OPN, dont know about how he and Lata parted ways, but what I heard was she was arrogant and made terms which were not acceptable to a few of the Music Directors, one of whom was OPN.

But then, you never know what was the truth and probably these are all going to be one of those stories, which will always remain that, and will never be proved.

Yes I heard that side of story too - also some rumors how Latabai use to negotiate with MDs to stop other talents to come at the forefront! 😕

Well - don't know what's the real stuff!

😊 Yes and we probably never will ever know the true story.

The main victims appeared to have been Suman Kalyanpur and Geeta Dutt (who withered away for other personal reasons as well). But then, alls fair in love and war and compteition... 😛

thanx Priya. Did not know that he was missing. saw him in the last C-2005 series too in an episode where JL had made some hue and cry against his decision.

he was definitely a gud MD. Very strong willed person. When he had problems wth Lata he went agaisnt the traditions of bollywood then and made Asha sing all his numbers instead of Lata.

Anol that part of the story is true. Lata used to negotiate wth MD's so that new talents would not come to the fore front. Even there are rumours that any MD if went agaisnt her wishes she would refuse to sing for the MD later in future.

This is life I guess. Who knows how history would have been, had things been different, Would Asha not have been the Asha we know today.... Would Lata Mangeshkar have sung "Raat Akeli hai" and how will that song be then, What about the OPN Songs.... How will it be hearing an Asha song sung by Lata Mangeshkar.

That's give rise to another question – why we have to assume a great performing artist (singer/dancer/or from movie industry) have to be a great person too. If he / she is a great person – very well, otherwise why we can't just focus on their creation and leave their back-stage and personal life!

For example we could've enjoyed many more great works of Oscar Wilde – if he was not suppressed by public due to the controversies!

But Anol in case of Lata she was never supressed by public controversies. She has walked along wth them. Infact it was she who supressed many gud singers.
