Debojit mobbed

Sa Re Ga Ma Pa winner meets people through the night

Subhash K Jha

Deboji Saha was overwhelmed when his home-coming in Assam exceeded all expectations. Back in his native place, Silchar, all that Debojit could manage to say was, "I've never seen anything like this."

For him it's a dream come true and it's taking time to register, "Kya nahin hua hai! I haven't slept for three days. It's all happening because of my guru and guide Ismail Durbarji. Nothing had prepared me for what waited for me in my home town Silchar. There were 10-15 lakh people waiting since early morning from the airport to my home 25 kms away. I've never dreamt of seeing so many people waiting to see me! Silchar has a population of just 8-10 lakh. But people from other areas like Tripura, Megalaya and Manipur had converged at the airport. It took me more than seven hours to reach my home. I could see only people cheering. It was scary. Anything could've happened."

Riding high on his new-found celebrity status, he says, "Am I a star? I don't know. Lekin pyar bahut milta hai. I don't know about the rest of the world. But I'm told such a thing has never happened in India before."

Debojit is the only musician from Assam since Bhupen Hazarika to have been subject to such adulation. "When I said I couldn't go to some of the nearby towns , people came to my home in Silchar. I chose not to sleep in the night to visit them. I visited three nearby towns, spent half an hour singing and talking. I can't tell you how how ecstatic I feel. Ismailji says this is simply madness." Debojit signs off, "Today I feel so happy. I can give my wife the comforts that I dreamt of."

Well, honestly speaking, who are you to judge, 'mona59'?

Are all these people mad or lacking in intelligence? Or maybe they should all take a trip to the cow-belt heartland to pay obeisance to Vineet? Oh, I forgot...most of them can't speak rudimentary Hindi...now how do these scum call themselves Indian, right?

Honestly speaking, you need to contact Dr. Phil or Ajmeri Baba as soon as possible. You need therapy. 😆

honestly speaking, stop your bullshit... if u can't stand his victory, keep quiet, but dont say he didn't deserve it, cuz he did and you are no musical authority to judge that.

You're right. Deserve isn't a strong enough word. Debojit EARNED it 😊

I think...what is the most important is that all the winners/losers/competitors keep a sane head on their shoulders...the 15mins of fame will end soon and then they have to go ahead and recreate the magic that got them here in the first place.

I think Abhijeet (the singer) in the finale show put it best -the 15 mins of fame will end soon....stop touching feet of everyone who walks into the door like its your duty to do so, bow only to music and you will succeed...

True that all the finalists must now use the end of srgmp as a new beginning and opportunity to grow and get better and better, not just "recreate the magic," as you put it.

That said, I haven't ever seen Debojit let attention go to his head, whether it be negative or positive. So I really don't see anything wrong with him getting to receive love from his fans right now. Throughout the last several months, Debojit had to bear the brunt of much humiliation and was never given enough credit. He didn't let that garbage affect him, and now he has earned the respect and admiration of many people...he has won our hearts. Some people just want to rain on this parade. Let their sour grapes rot to hell. It doesn't matter. NE is happy for Debojit, as are his fans from all over the world.
