I can give many examples where ARR has recorded the entire song using few instruments only on the other hand he has songs with many instruments, ID beleives in using full fledged orchestra most of the time.

A public figure should avoid speaking unnec. to media, ID is unpolished & he pays price for that, then media people are expert in writting things from their perspective.

Wasn't ID's Nimuda Nimuda song a total ripoff from an artist in Rajasthan? To this day ID hasn't given credit to him.

Music is not always about foot tapping beats. HR has better foot-tapping beats than ARR. Beats, anyone can do. It takes guts and genius to compose the way ID did for HDDCS and Devdas. Certainly, those two are better than Saathiya and Taal.

We should shed this colonial hangover of ours....anything which is recognised by the west is better. That's stupid. The west only identifies with what is popular and what is marketed well. They will identify with music which has beats and chords and stuff...synthetsised stuff. It doesn't mean that it is better. What is better and what is not, mainly depends upon the situation for which it is being composed and the sensibility of the people at which it is directed at.

I wouldn't give ID any such project like what HR gets nowadays. And I would be insane to give HR a Devdas or an Umrao Jaan and such.

That said, we can compare the sensibilities of people. There are more people in India who think that dancing to beats, being flamboyant, hip-hip and happening and aping the west totally is the best way to live. Indian values and tradition are lost. And there are people who're humble, simple, traditional, mature and live well still. What kind of people are better? It is certainly true that the kind of music we listen to identifies with our personality.

agree with everything you said, except for the last part. it is not about which people are better and which are not and the taste in music is influenced a lot of other things like mood, exposure to different style of music and of course temprament. one might like classical music but be tyrant of worst sort (ancient kings, hitler and several scientists who performed gory experiments on human come in this category). on the other hand a very mature person may end up liking hard metal. i personally like ghazals(gulam ali, jagjit singh), celtic music( reminds me of romanticism of bygone era with minimal instruments) and club style music(high beats you can sway), and hard core classical instrumental music .i also end up getting sentimental on hearing certain symphonies and arias .what personality category would you put me into. .also i guess music is a matter of taste and looks like my taste runs more towards ar's style than id's style. afterall while people see great things in picasso, i see a kid playing with colors(i am tasteless when it comes to abstract art) ,yet i can write pages on other styles of painting.
