Lata is at her screechy best in Mile Sur Mera Tumhara šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰

def i agree that ashaji shud have sung this song, but maybe the voice is at a low level..u know what i mean?? i cant really find the words, but what i meant was lataji voice wasnt very screechy in this one....i was always an asha fan even when lataji was much much younger and at her peak.........

i feel she shud retire too.....infact she shud have done that years ago......

Yes Ashaji has retained her voice quality more so than her legendary sister.

Hi all,

I know that a lot of you are very well versed in music...so i figured i can post this question here in this forum. My fiance is american and he loves indian music. However, there are some Lata Mangeshkar songs that absolutely hurt his ears...probably the pitch is too high. After he mentioned it i started hearing the songs more carefully. There are some songs where i find no difference between yelling at a high 'Ga' and Lataji's song... šŸ˜’.

Why is this? I mean people are always saying what a wonderful singer Lataji is (and i agree) but some of her songs literally can hurt the ear if heard on earphones or on a loud system.

Thank you in advance for your input,

-Kruti

lata-baaii's high pitch voice is a god's gift. very few people have a capability to sing in that high pitch voice. i in fact like that and find it sweet. at the same time i hate male singers singing in high pitch the way they do in western pop music. i guess it's what you like, what you are used to.

I like Lata's young age songs. After a some decades her voice baceme nasal and shrill due to obvious reasons.

Her age shows very much in her voice lately and IMHO, she should refrain from singing for those young heroins. If you see the video and hear the song, you will be shocked.. Recently, I heard her singing for one tamil song.. Rajnikant movie, Lemme update this post as to which movie/what song after finding out... It was - am so sorry to say this.. was just too Unhearable...
If sharib sings with Lata, you will enjoy hearing sharib's voice better than Lataji's..
She used to sound Divine in those Aandhi, AmarPrem period songs..

sonce last few years, her vioce has gone thick and it is suitable only for certain types of songs.

I second your opinion.. "hiding for cover - for fear of lataji's fans"

It is true lataji's voice has definitely changed over time and with age. Having the ability to sing at such a high pitch infact has gotten her acclaim worldwide though at certain times in certain songs it does hurt you ears. Quite amazingly having colleagues who are Chinese here in Hong Kong they also say the same thing why is she singing in that manner they find it hard to appreciate this.

lata came out of the studio with dignity....
Now... if its the question of her playback singing for younger actress.. consider .. are they young looking or psuedo western half male half female looking actresses ?
If latter is the case then why cant she offer play back to him(almost ) her?

Go Lata
manipulate some more
then leave the throne for sweet feminine Nihira.....šŸ˜‰

I think that lataji's songs are awesome - they just dont suit the new generation of actresses thats all...but ya, i agree that Nihira is one of the few who can even attempt to sing the same genre songs as Lataji. The actresses of today have more husky voices and Himani is more qualified to fit in with most actresses...dont get me wrong...i am a huge Nihira fan as far as singing quality is concerned, but she will probably face the same problems that Lataji would face with current actresses!
