Hi,
I have heard the Manna Dey version (what a versatile singer) and then Hema's version. A good attempt by Hema, but not a patch on the original. Hema tried very hard to do the lilting, staccato "Ga-aa-utha-aa-mausam" the way Manna Dey did...couldn't carry it off, but still, Hema's performance was charming and honest as always.

I agree. He appeared to struggle through those parts, but still gave an enjoyable performance.

Let us not compare the with Manna de, if Hema sings exactly like Manna De everyone would say he is immitating and copying his style, as such Hema did an Excellent Job in his own Original Voice.

Beautifully sung, great Hema keep it up.

Sure is a tough song. Objectively, the yodelling Debojit did was even more difficult..but he DID carry that off, with style I might add. I much prefer Hemu's voice to that of Debojit otherwise, but at this stage of the competition, all the contestants SHOULD pick songs they can sing WITH EASE on stage.

True...and usually that is Hema's biggest strength..that he usually sings songs in his own style. But the staccato bit he did was meant to be exactly like Manna Dey's...and it wasn't. I think he should have left that bit out, because he was finding it difficult, and just sung it straight. Overall, Hema got the sense of the song right and communicated the "fun" mood of the song really well.

The staccatos are a part of the written music and not Manna Dey's style. I am glad he made an attempt at them at least. Playing staccatos is hard enough for a fast song, but singing them is even harder, IMHO.

So, Kudos to Hema for a job well done. 😊

Musicbuff,
I also felt that Debojit was excellent yesterday. I have noticed that he always performs wonderful on the elimination episode and the next day, the day they sing before the guest judge he fumbles, I wonder why?
Also Hema was very nervous yesterday, I think it is very unfair to ask them to sing after telling them(Hema, Paresh) one of you might be out.
The rest of them sang after they were announced that they made it to the next round.
And to think that Hema got the highest votes and to make him sing under so much tension. First time he got the highest votes and they did not even let him savour it, so much for reality shows, ha??

Debojit did come up trumps yesterday. To me, he is the most surprising, inconsistent performer. He gives a row of ok but not great performances, and then surprises with a fantastic performance like yesterdays, or the "Aaja ve maahi..." song.

Perhaps Hema was nervous yesterday. The format of the show is quite unfair to the bottom two/three.
