Puzzling voting...result of boredom?

Saregama or Saregamapa has always been a great show, ever since its inception 10 or more years ago. The reason why it is such a great show...good hosts (Sonu, Shaan), fantastic judges, and that rare, outstandingly talented singer (Shreya Ghoshal, Mohd Vakil, Bela Shinde, Abhaas, Shreya Pant etc, etc).

This particular show started out really well coz it was different, what with the perpetually fighting mentors and all! It had some good (not outstanding) talent as well...great from the start like Nihira and Himani...and slowly developing into good singers like Hemachandra, Debo, Sharib..etc, etc.

However, no matter how good the singers are, after a show DRAGS on SO...OO LONG as this challenge 2005 has, the audience is very likely not going to be tuning in to listen to a great performance on the day and vote for that. Like me, and some others, they're only tuning in out of habit...and those who are voting, are voting for their favourites and NOT for the best performance on the day.

So who is to blame for the better singers being voted out...not a rigged system, not a stupid audience, not an over-excited but largely ridiculous mentor..but ZEE TV...for not knowing when to bring a good show to an early end. In my mind, what Zee's doing with this show, is very like what Saurav Ganguly's doing with his former illustrious cricketting career!

This is partly true musicbuff.......
But if you take a closer look, voting always has been marred by bad public taste.
What explaination do you give for early departure of Sharib & Swananda, that was more than 6 weeks ago...

Bad public taste....hmm..it is kind of judgemental to call other people's choice, "bad". Even in movies, you have the "popular" cinema and then the more critically appreciated "arthouse cinema"...does that mean that popular movies are bad just becasue they dont get critical praise?

I'm not a big Vinit or Debo fan, but for whatever reason, they ARE popular..not just their personality, but people actually seem to appreciate Vinits singing...does that mean their taste is bad? Isn't it more logical to state that there is something wrong with MY taste for not liking Vinit?!!

As for my post, all I meant to say is that this show should be ended quickly and its time we go back to the old format with different singers each show.

Thanks mammu...and I agree with..is not at all about the singing anymore.
The sooner all the contestants are out of this artificial, repetitive world of Saregama challenge 2005, and into the REAL world where they are singing their own songs, the better!
