Having listened to Himani more closely I feel that she is quiet a versatile singer and should not narrow down her range to Pop singing alone (a la Sunidi Chauhan). I do think that she does not have a conventional voice like Nihira but she has a resonant and powerful voice, with the perfect apt for Thumri, Ghazals and classical singing.

If I have to select between Nihira and Himani, I would say that Nihira has the perfect voice and range for playback singing, but Himani should not lose her talent and make a waste on pop singing alone.

Himani can follow the track of Begum Akhtar, and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and churn out her own albums which will surely have a market of its own. After listening to contemporary music which is too noisy and jarring, it would be a welcome relief to listen to some sound classical music and ghazals.

I agree with your post kaboo123 that Himani is a gifted singer and must not strictly limit herself to pop singing. Nihira is definitely better for plyaback singing but Himani would be very good in classical thumri.

Thanks for reading the post. Sufi music is very powerful. Somewhat what the Indian Qawali compositions are like. I feel that she can do well in Qawali, ghazals and thumri. It would be a pity to watch her get confined to modern contemporay style music.

Nihira is my personal favourite is definitely better than Himani particularly as a playback voice she is an undisputed winner. We will see a lot of music composers chase Nihira as to date playback music does require a very melodious and sweet voice.

The part which is highlighted here is that Himani given her unconventional voice should not strictly confine herself in her musical career to pop music as she can do very well in thumri and ghazals as well.

Hello Kaboo

This actually is a very good topic.
See in my opinion, the time to experiment is over, at this point if Himani plays unsafe in context of her genre she might jeopardise her chances.
She should actually have tried diff genre songs long back, I agree that she should do well in khayal/thumri round...
I wish she had sung some thing like 'nazar lagi rahi raja tore bangle par'..but time is gone now...
She msut sing from position of strength (read her genre).
